The main road running through our community has a lot of traffic. A construction crew has a trench covered by large metal trench plates. It has ben raining off and on for almost a week. The ground is saturated by now. The trench has been covered since the rain started. As I drove over the plates I noticed the edge of a couple not even with the others. They were starting to sink into the dirt on one side. I notified the city. I walked up to see if anything was being done. The plates were all blocked off to keep cars off. I told the foreman: I guess I was right about the plates sinking. He said you sure were. He couldn't stop thanking me. Don't understand why no one else noticed, after a couple days of traffic. Stan

Noticing is of extreme importance. Sometimes a thinking brain attached to knowing eyes is a real life and money saver. Thanks. Jim

I am amazed at what people do not notice.

I was driving a truck that lost part of its hay load. I could not believe that people were still driving next to me and trying to pass on the side the load was falling to. I know the load fell on some cars. I pulled over at the next exit, resecured the load and waited an hour for the CHP. No one ever showed.

There was a huge dead oak tree about a mile from my house on the road bank. BIG dead limbs reaching all the way across the road. Pretty busy road and a lot of folks going to work or taking kids to school drove under those limbs. My wife drove under it twice a day. Called a friend that worked at SCDOT and he brought the big boss to my shop one day. Sat and talked for a while and fed my catfish for them to see. Told them where the tree was. In a few days it was down and gone.
Water company had put a line under a busy highway about a mile from home and the asphalt sank at the edge about a foot leaving about a 2 square foot hole. It would have taken the front axle out of a car. Called the same friend and it was repaired by the water company in a few hours.
Pays to be observant.

If its like everything else they are probably short on staff and don't have enough eyes to go around.
