Addition to my workbench

I made a sliding shelf on my bench under the vice for catching metal shavings when cutting threads and to catch oil drainage from hydraulic cylinders or other parts containing fluids when repairing them. I usually miss the bucket otherwise lol. Have a pup that comes in the shop so I didn't want him getting into the metal shavings. I made an angle iron frame to put a cookie sheet in. Then it can be removed for cleaning.

I had to do a double take. I built mine like yours. I have a wooden top with galvanized metal screwed to the top, and a nice vice. Mine is "off the grid" so I have a hand crank stone wheel. I like your idea so I'll give it a try here. Thanks

I built a slide for my bench top drill press so it juts out from the bench, so I have more room and most of the shavings stay off the bench.

I'll have to add that to my project list. At the rate they are building up I may get to it before age 85.

that is cool. my vise is on a stand but surely I can figure out a way to add a tray. maybe one that swings around on the post. that's for the idea.

great idea. Good for catching falling parts too - which seems to be my biggest issue in the shop. The little pin you're punching out - or the little nut you're trying to get started on something. Once they hit my floor they're gone into the void.

A big magnet under the sheet to help catch that little pin y'all are talking about (and I'm still looking for).

I like the idea and will try to build something similar. I am usually working on dirt bike forks so I can see how this would be a real mess stopper.

Magnet out of an old speaker would work good under it. We also use those to pick up rust particles in radiators of our old tractors. A chunk of copper wire through a round magnet from a speaker can be fastened to a brace inside the radiator tank to keep the magnet in place. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
