Ia Garys feature night,,,,barn quilts

I guess this would be a barn quilt story.......Two years ago my cousin, who has made dozens of quilts, came to our annual family gathering with a couple of her quilts as she wanted to hang them on the side of our barn to photograph them. I had joked with her, "We could just hang them all out and cover the whole barn." She took my comments and ran with them, so the following summer we did it! In spite of a number of skeptics who thought we were crazy, all in attendance had fun and we even got a photo on the front page of the local newspaper, and an article in Lancaster Farming also.

You's got me...That's one thing I aint got(unless the Morton Building logo counts). Those aren't a common thing in this area. However if I go north to where my friend (who's MM I posted back under "Yellow/Random") has his tractors stored there are all kinds up that way. I think it was the local FFA and art classes that did them as a fund riser at some point in time.

Out for a walk one day up there with him, his gal(at time) and his sis(who I was seeing at time) one day. They asked what they were for...I said something on the lines of.... to have something other then the barn to look at, some are random some are to match the personality of the barn owner(say one that had IH rotated/mirrored(of coarse in red/black/white) on the quilt)

I have some that are the same pattern as many that are on that barn. These were made by my mother and grandmother in the 1950's. I am 67 years old and I have a baby quilt that was made for me by mt great grandmother. Just about every blanket were have here in our house has been made by my mother. I remember when I was small as helping to cut out small pieces to to be sewn together and made into sqs for some of the quilts they made. These were all hand sewn together no machine

We have one on our barn in Schoharie Co., NY. Part of an initiative to promote folk art and tourism. I think there are 60 or more now, not all on barns, in the quilt barn trail. I will try to find a photo to post from my phone. Can't seem to select one from the old iPad

Here's one on our 1903 barn that my 14 year old daughter painted last year. A group called the Kansas Flint Hills Quilt Trail was instrumental in making them popular in this area.

Here's ours. I had it made for my wife by a lady in Forest City Iowa. We picked the pattern and colors. We went with all tractor colors--JD green & yellow. IH red, Ford blue.
