What does it go to

Anybody know what this clevis fits? I'm wondering if it went to a horse-drawn plow. If pic loads.

not sure of original purpose, I have 2 or three laying around that I have found over the years. I have used them as a clevis for tow ropes, and for pulling other type of stuff that needs a clevis. I am relatively sure they were originally on some type of horse drawn equipment.

We use one like that for pulling 2 wheel trailers around. Set the tongue on the draw bar then slip that straddle both with the pin through it all holds the tongue from riding up pulling the pin out.

Several were in the mix of tack and remnants of horse drawn cultivators and wagons on our farm in Indiana. Jim

They were available in various sizes to anchor large wooden pulleys used by horse farmers for various purposes. We had some of those wooden pulleys on the over-shot hay stacker that my Grandpa invented and designed. Grandpa made 3 of the hay stackers in the late 1920's; one for himself, one for my uncle and one for my Dad. We used it until 1946 when Dad bought the Case hand-tie wire baler. The air around the hay stacker was a lot cleaner than riding that baler, but it was nice to have those bales stacked in the yard for a winter supply of hay!

That clevis was used to attach the single trees to the double tree. They were long to go over the double tree which was about 6 inches wide .

The first time I poked wires to the guy on the other side I poked the wire on the wrong side of the divider and tied the divider to the bale. Stan

All of the clevis's that I saw hooking a single tree to a double tree had a notch worn in the center of the back part of the clevis from the horses pulling on the single tree. The one in the pic doesn't have any notch so it was used for another purpose, although it could have been used as a single tree connection if one wanted to use it that way.
