Pearl IL, they started planting two weeks ago. Way to cold, but some have started.

I heard that EXACT same thing and saw something about a week ago about a guy planting over by Decatur. Dad told me this morning someone was planting down by Mt Sterling, IL. All I can think is they are gambling with left over seed from last year. Margins way too tight with $3.70 corn to risk double planting after a frost with no crop insurance. Someone must have bigger stones that me or more money than brains.

not every crop is corn! I have the spring wheat in and if I was to plant canola or peas I would have them in as well south dakota.Paul

There's a field across the road and a couple of hundred yards east that hasn't been combined yet, guy never does it until spring. Big field too, something like 300 acres.

A few fields of corn are still standing here in Northwest Iowa. The one closest to me is down bad. We did not have that bad of a fall.

I got my three acres of oats in yesterday but it is on well drained ground. A deep tile ditch for a 12" tile was dug and back filled across 400 feet of my land last December. I leveled it somewhat yesterday but it is still way mushy. The front wheels of the loader tractor sank to China in the trench so that is a good indicator to stay away for awhile. This is on higher ground. We do have some anhydrous going in but I think the guys are rushing it a bit.

We planted all your oats last week. This is just water ways and is on sandy ground. The boys have all the planting equipment ready and several customers that want to start by the 10th of April if the ground is dry enough.

All this talk of corn still standing till spring has me mystified. here in Virginia corn left on the stalk over winter would be totally green with mold.... not even very good hog feed!!

JD, there have been years we have chomped at the bit waiting for the 10th to start planting, I really think the crops that are put in a couple weeks later do better with the warmer ground and quicker germination.
