OT Nice people you run into at work...

The clock is running down on our annual busy season. Our traditional ebb and flow for the last week is to be very busy out-processing but not necessarily taking in a lot of new returns. We do have a limited number of long time clients who like to come in the last week, however. Generally they expect to sit and chat for an hour or so and catch up on our respective families, etc. Can make for a pleasant day. Two fellas who come in earlier have made it a habit of picking up their taxes in the last week. One came today and, as usual, had a bag with burgers in it from a well known local chain. One for me and one for my wife...never one for him and he refuses to share ours. Signs his forms, writes a check, thanks me and gets thanked in return. On the last possible day the other fella will pick up. Shows up late in the afternoon with a hot pizza...every year. Really incredibly nice. Any nice customers where you work?

We have a RV park at the dunes so mostly motor heads.
Lot's of regular families. We get a lot of "come over to camp for a barley pop after work"
Some complaints and most are legit, but then you get a rather goofy one, we call them our 2 percenters

I was in a hospital many years ago for a severe back injury. I asked if I had any diet restrictions and they said none. I ordered a steak and baked potato and it came. So I decided to order in pizza each evening for the nursing staff, which got me many points. Some evenings, I would ask them to get up an order from Subway and my wife would stop on her way in and pick up the order. Today, if I go to the hospital for tests or visit a friend, they still ask where the pizza is.

I'm sure it depends on your line of work. I worked at a farm equipment dealer for 12 years. It seems like it's easy for some to look down on those who get dirty making a living. I remember getting fresh blueberry pie out on a farm, on a service call once.

I have a few nice people in the territory I take care of. I have a couple ladies that bring me cookies the first snowstorm every year. I go by their house, and they know about how long it will take me to finish that run and be headed back down the other side of the road. When I get by their houses, they'll be standing at the edge of the road waving for me to stop. Very nice older ladies that live by themselves and drive little cars. They are grateful that I have plowed the road and they can get out if they need to. There is quite a few people that will walk out and stop me a couple times a year and just tell me I'm doing a good job. If I happen to see someone stuck (not flat out in the ditch), just hung up a bit, and it won't hold me up too long, I'll stop and shovel under their tires and toss a couple shovel full of sand under their tires to get them out. They sometimes will send a personal thank you note to the office for you. Makes you feel good, like there are people out there that do appreciate the job you're doing. No matter what job someone is doing, they are almost always beneficial to someone else.

When I dispatched concrete the big customers were always the nicest and easiest to get along with and the little guys the biggest pains, always figured
that's why the little guys stayed little.

Dave, I saw that you were on the evening news the other night. They had a piece on getting your taxes done three different ways. They had some people that did them themselves with Turbo tax, then they took them to the big storefront guy, and then to a local who was well referred, (you). The storefront guy too k a long time and missed a lot of important deductions. Turbo tax was faster but missed some things. Fastest and best was local well known guy (you).

I was told by my accountant that my check had to dated by the 18th of April, some stupid holiday or something? I can't remember what he said.

That's nice of you to say. I like to think I give the best overall 'bang for the buck'. After 26 years in this area I guess I am pretty well known too. I stopped advertising several years back, there was no real good venue to support it. Lately I have been getting folks in here who tell me they referred their friend to me only to find out the friend already came here. A couple weeks back a fella in his 80's came in and told me "so and so" referred him. I had to ask him three times to repeat the name and still had no idea who "so and so" was. Turned out it was a fella I did taxes for 8 years ago but vanished on me. Nice of him to remember me. I thought he was dead! :)

Saturday is a holiday in Washington DC. When it falls on Saturday, they move it back to Friday so they can all take the day off. Friday then being the official holiday and IRS business not being conducted on Saturday and Sunday, Monday is officially the due date for individual, trust, estate and partnership tax returns. Corporations file on March 15. For my part?

I'm outta here Friday!

At my old job doing precision ag stuff, there were a couple farms that invited me in for dinner if I was at their place on a service call or installation. Another one or 2 would feed me beer at the right time of day.

When I worked for Production Credit Assn. in the '70's, had several dairy farmers that told me specifically what time of the morning to stop by- because that's when they had breakfast, coffee and donuts, etc. Mrs. Schramm put on the best breakfasts, and there was always plenty for unexpected guests.
