Back To Work

After yesterday's picture of me fixing the Super 90 Massey I thought I would post a pic to show it actually worked after my hap hazard soldering repair on the fuel return line. I'm hauling rocks from one of my grandfather's rock piles to try and fill in a water/mudhole on the prairie trail. It is pretty rough work and still needs finishing with some gravel. At least it is passable.

Looks messy, but I'm sure it will be much better! We have huge rock piles around our fields and I thought about doing something like that in the soft spots in our trails in our one woods that has silty soft dirt.

It does work well. The rocks push down in the mud until they won't go any further. Ideally it should have a layer of smaller rocks or gravel to finish the surface but my gravel pit is a mile away across a soft field. A little too soft for a loaded gravel truck at this time.

When I had my triaxle dump a friend hired me to haul him some bank run gravel that I knew of. He was not going to pay the price for quarry stone or crusher run, but this bank run worked well for him, and he got loads for a few other problem spots. If you know of an independent hauler he may have a line on some low cost but effective material.

In 1960 I built a house and for the driveway I put several loads of cinders from the rubber plants in Akron Ohio. Many, many yards of cinders and they all ended up in the mud. So-- rented a dump truck and hauled at least 6 loads of large rocks into the driveway. Then cinders on top. The driveway was about 3 feet hign but slowly over the next few years sank to level and i CONTINUED TO PUT GRAVEL ON IT every couple of years. 2 years ago when the house was sold they hired someone to get all the rocks out and then paved the drivweway. I think it is sinking again.
