I placed a wanted ad here in the classified section for some parts for a somewhat rare tractor, fellow called me said he had the parts, well great, gave me a good price on them too. After a couple calls I get a little worried as he says he needs to ship them out right away and wants me to send him the money Western Union.I figure its a scam at that point but I could be wrong
fellow was nice enough and knew the parts but anytime someone 'happens' to have a truck headed my way in a few hrs and needs payment by wire I'm skeptical.Anyone had something similar happen to them from an ad here?

That screams scam all the way. And yes others have been contacted like you, suckered out of money and never get their parts. Normally for rare tractors too. Run far away out offer cash to driver when he delivers. If it his truck he should trust the driver.

Yes, I have had a VERY similar experience from a want ad I placed on YT several years ago. Seller wanted payment wired via Western Union, long story short it was a SCAM!!! Don't walk, RUN! from that deal!!!

Have him take a picture (or two) of the parts and have him email the pictures to you. I'm betting that you will get all kinds of excuses as to why he won't or can't do it.
If he can't, "Run, Forest, Run!"

Does anybody legitimately use Western Union anymore? I would never use this service and honestly don't know why its still around.

Similar situation with friend years ago so we went deep. Told the guy we were coming through his town next Tuesday and would pick up item!!!! Never heard from him again.

If they get you to send money via Western Union there is NO way to stop payment or to get your money back. Kinda like a USPS money order. The big thing here is that with a USPS money order there are federal laws broken should they have you send money that way and it's a scam. There are no federal laws broken with a money transfer via Western Union unless you get over a certain dollar amount.

Someone allegedly 90 miles from us tried that on my daughter when she was looking for a puppy for my grand daughter. She found an ad from people who claimed to be from Fargo with the breed she was looking for, was in phone contact with them. Something smelled fishy to her so she ask if I could go with her to look at the pup (SIL drive OTR). When she told them that her dad was bringing her up the in a couple of days then they wanted her to send money via Western Union. Shook her up pretty bad as she would have gone with a 6 yer old had she not gotten spooked by themselves. It was only after she called them back and told them a day she could get there because of my schedule that they wanted her to wire money.
