Final bale count for small squares from first cutting. It may not be impressive to some of you but it was my first real experience in charge of haying. Was always just help growing up.

1209 Deere haybine
894 Deere rake
24T Deere baler

Baler got crashed last summer and basically rebuilt the whole knotting mechanism. Took about the first 100 bales to get the kinks worked out but hasn't missed a single bale in the last 400+. I backed it in the shed Sunday night and noticed the shear pin in the flywheel was broke and remembered that Saturday morning I broke one and turned the broken bolt around so I could recheck all the timing and plunger safety stop turning it over by hand. Guess I got in a hurry and forgot to put new shear pin in. Finished the last 160 bales tonight after forgetting to replace the pin again. I'll post some pics up tomorrow.

Your mistake was backing it in the shed for the night. I'm convinced that there are two things that
break themselves when parked for the night - the combine and the baler.

That's a pretty fair number for one day to make for small squares.

My count yesterday was only 14, I cheated and used the round baler though.

That was 3 days. Saturday my wife and her sister wanted to work out and stack hay, I had to stop and wait for them to catch up every 5-6 bales. Kids were anxious to "help" but kind of got in the way but I wasn't going to extinguish their desire to help so we took it slow and easy. Sunday my dad came up and we hammered a bunch out. Finished up the last 142 Monday. The last few bales were probably past the prime for baling as the dew came on fast.

That's pretty good. I baled 138 round bales Sunday and Monday. 826 IH and 435 JD round baler. Combined age of tractor, baler and me...125 years

I get the same kind of help from the kids as the oldest is 8. Grandpa is my biggest help but that is only from the tractor seat. Second or third
cut there will be some hay rack time for the kids.

You're over roundabouts of Hanna City right? We ought to go up the The Warehouse and have a beer sometime. If you oldest is around 8 our kids go to school together.

That sounds like a plan for someday... I always manage to miss the roundup due to work, kids or something and that's in the slow season.
Send me an email and we will see what we can figure out.
