Made some changes

Is there a support group for ex IH 5488 owners? Taking on this much debt scares the bee-geebies out of me! :>(

Ordered a new loader for it as well; the dealer has to haul it back to town to mount the silly thing. Says it takes his techs 16 hours to hang it.

Hopefully it has other work besides hauling 6 bales around at a time. Otherwise, you mighta reached a little high!

;)

Looks good.

Wow! You must have had a heckuva wheat crop! How many horse is that bad boy? I bought a used 4wd last spring and have two of them, neighbor asked why I bought it, I said no use the kids spending the money when I'm gone, I'm gonna spend it now.

With this one, I can use it every day instead of letting it sit for 9 months out of the year. I'm back to pulling hitch pins tho.

Allan

Yes Sir,

That was what was killing me around here. I was always repairing instead of being in the field at the most critical times.

Flip those front wheels when you are done row cropping for the year and you will be shocked. I hate doing it on the 7800 but it really makes a tractor out of it. It feels like such a big hog otherwise and takes half of Georgia to turn around. With a front loader the swap isn't too bad.

Got to get some different way of hitching. Maybe pintel for all but biggest tillage. Pull rope on trigger?

My neighbor has one like that. Not sure if same number but he just loves it. He was all green until this. He would have bought another green at the time but saw he could get so much more tractor for less money and we have a Massey dealer only 6 miles away and the green dealer is 10 miles on other side of town. Location, location, location.

Not sure about the trans but the Massey has a Sisu engine (came from the Agco purchase of Valtra originally Valmet) and the Fendt has a Deutz engine.

Well, it seemed like it was just never going to end with that 5488. I still like those 88s but that one you had just was a bad one from when you got it and chances are from when the first owner go it.

Nice!! I don't know much about Masseys. I've got a friend that does right of way work for the railroad. He started out with Masseys and went to Case/IH and then to Kubota. He started making a lot of money so he bought a bunch of Deeres . He said the Deers almost broke him and he went back to Massey. According to him they are the only ones that hold up to abusive work.

Brother bought a Massey a few years ago. CIH dealer told him "once you own a Massey You will always own a Massey" meaning he could not get rid of it. I thought it was OK, but he didn't keep it but a couple of years.

I sure do like the old IH's but that is one very nice upgrade. I think you will be very happy with your new mobile easy chair.

That's the thing,

The compressor on the air conditioning went out one afternoon; well okay, I can fix that later.......then the next morning I lost all power
steering and the silly thing stopped moving all together. Hooked the 1066 to the disc and it just can't handle it.

Still okay, I can fix that 5488. Took me two hours to pull the hydraulic flow control valve out of her and I'm trying to repair it on the
tailgate of the pickup out in the field with the wind and dirt blowing.

I'm getting stressed out as I'm wayyyy behind in my work now. Can't see the light at the end of the tunnel anymore. Went to put the
hydraulic valve back together and I didn't even have a silly pair of needle-nosed pliers because that damned fire had taken all my tools.

6:15 the next morning I'm off to town as I live a long ways out. Get a $5 pair of pliers, bringing the total amount of money I've put in that
tractor to $3ok plus the pliers. I'm nearing the end of my rope by this time.

On a whim I drive by the machinery dealer's lot to see if he would have a tractor I could possibly rent for a week. He's not even open yet as
it's still not quite 8 am. Call his cell phone and no, nothing to rent but I can "demo" the dualed-up Massey for two days.

He had it in my yard before I got the hydraulic valve back in the 5488.

Yesterday, I knocked off at noon as I am totally caught up and just waiting on 50 acres of hay to dry. Yes, I'm rambling........

You are lucky. 2 brothers near me have been AC/AGCO guys as was their dad. Now they are driving 60 miles for parts and service and the dealer leaves a lot to be desired. The old dealership that was near them the brothers that owned it retired and sold out. The dealer 60 miles away bought them out and in less than 2 years had run off enough business that they closed their "new store". I'm betting their next new purchase will be the other red or green and yellow. Both dealers are closer and provide better parts and service. Kinda sad in a way. Was nice to drive 14 miles and for great parts and service.

They probably have to jack it up and half tear it apart to hang the mounting brackets. Joystick control with a rocker in the top for the grapple is nice, too.

Don't know about the Massey, but the newer JD with the reverser I guess you are supposed to just pop it in F or R and let it do its own thing with the clutch.

Would that be about a 2005 model year? One of Larry Gay's books shows the 8450 as beginning in 2005 if his book is accurate.
