ebay heartbreak

To keep the story simple, I was tickled darned near to death this morning to find an item I have been looking for a while on fleabay.

(To repair a tool, a plasma cutter.)

I need four little resistors, and they won't combine shipping, so it would cost over $50 to ship four little parts than could be sent in a flat-rate mailer for under $10.

I replied and told them at least they will never stand the chance of being called "reasonable" and I will continue to look for a better deal.

DAMN! WHAT a waste of time.

Dang Bob, what kind of resistors would cost $50 to ship?
For that matter, even $10?
Are these specially mounted/heat sinked resistors to start with?

Maybe someone here lives close and could pick them up for you.
If they're near me I would grab them and mail them to you.

It's a common practice on eBay: sell a cheap product but have an exorbitant shipping cost to make up for the profit lost on selling a product below cost.

Try Amazon. I have found they often have obscure parts that surprised me they even had them. Especially if you have a number, they can find it. I ordered 5 watch batteries for less than $4.00 and they are coming today-NO shipping charge.(I subscribe to Amazon Prime)

Ebay also has people. That will sell a cheap item at a high price. With free shipping.Such as a nickle nut for 10.99. See it all the time.

Typically shipping isn't refunded, so sell a broke part for pennies, charge the moon in shipping and then refund the pennies when it is DOA.

Hopefully this isn't the case.

What made me stop using Ebay was stuff like that. I was watching one item that I could buy new from an online store for 125 dollars and any order over 100 included free shipping. A Ebay seller had the item, used, buy it now for 100, 50 dollars shipping. I sent the guy a message asking about the high shipping cost and was told "it cost more to ship items from TX". So I checked shipping based on the items weight and size on FedEx, UPS and USPS. Shipping with insurance was under 10 dollars. I feel sorry for the idiot who purchased the item, it did sell, for 145 plus the 50 dollars shipping.
