Not that kind of date, but a date with the doctor to replace my right hip joint. Next month on the 18th. I imagine a few on here have gone through the same thing. I can walk fine and get on my tractors fairly good. Sitting on the tractor is fine. I just can't bend over. very hard to tie my boots. I can get on my knees ok, just need something to grab geting up. If that goes well I will do the other hip. Stan

Good luck with your surgery. From the folks I have talked to, they say a hip is a piece of cake compared to a knee replacement.

I am like Old Popper , everybody says the hip is a lot easier than the knee. So far I have made it 73 year without either. My sister=in=law is 56 and has had both hips and was not down long on either .

Will the surgery be anterior or posterior? The folks who have had it done anterior really liked it because of the fast recovery time. The posterior way has a slightly better chance of fewer problems but the recovery period is much longer. You have probably heard all this before. Marilyn had one replaced posterior a couple of years ago and it's good as new now. The other one has a big old spur and she is walking around with a cane. She just got an appt with the hip doc for Aug 3. She goes on Medicare Aug 1 and has been anxiously waiting for that Aug 1 date since last Feb when the X-ray showed the spur.

Good luck with it. My total shoulder has been fine, just some loss of motion but no loss of strength or pain anymore.

Had my first hip repl in "09, other side last year, June. I don"t miss the grinding of bone on bone. Most important...do the exercises! Recovery with 2nd hip, with less invasive surgery, is much shorter.

I have a great aunt that suffered from arthritis. Fairly young when they started replacing joints. She has had her hips done at least twice, knees and shoulders done. Now in her mid eighties she has to slow down because if she falls she cannot get up by herself. But for all those years did very well and kept a great attitude.

How did you manage to ever get an appointment with a doctor in the first place? Local health center here has those doctors booked so full that even if you HAVE an appointment, which I did, you still can't get in.

For what it's worth, I'm talking about the Clarinda Regional Health Center. Clarinda, Iowa.
