My daughter likes sunflowers and zinnia flowers. To surprise her the whole field along the driveway and above the pond is planted in sunflowers and I threw some zinnia seeds along the edge. The sunflowers are not developed yet,but look like they will make it.

That should surprise her,, next time she visits they may be blooming .

It sure is nice down there. We have a very serious drought going on here in the Finger Lakes region and a lot of areas west of I-81. The prior two years were extremely wet locally. It's going to be a challenge to make it to next year I am afraid.

Larry, you know your going to have to post again when the sunflowers are in full bloom with the other flowers. Sure looks nice now.

It rained pretty good yesterday, but I Could still mow the whole ditch to the pond with the tractor,,didnt even make a tire mark,,most times I have to be careful not to get stuck

I notice the rain cap on the Ford is quite a ways open, you must be working it pretty hard! I have one on our Farmall C with a mower and when the grass
gets taller it opens farther and when you run out of the grass it almost shuts. Those old governors really work well.

The crops are hanging in there but each passing day now means a yield hit. The worst part up until this year is our yields have been 65-75 percent of normal for the last 3 out of 4 years so crop insurance has made very little impact on revenue. We are a small operation and I can withstand 1 or 2 years out of 5 being subpar but when it gets to 4 it makes it difficult to survive. There is very little in the way of jobs locally so I depend on the revenue from the farm to keep the household running. I just have to keep my head up which is harder to do as I age.

That will look great Larry! Did you plant
the sunflowers? I have always wanted to
plant a field of sunflowers, but don't
really know how to go about it.

Looks nice! Last year I planted some rows of zinnias along the road on the edge of my little field
and got a lot of nice comments from neighbors. I tried again this year but with all of our rains
(including a major flooding of that end of the field when the culvert plugged up) things didn't
work out too well. There's a few flowers among the grass and weeds but nothing to be proud of -
certainly not as well-groomed as what you have there!

I didnt plant the seeds, the frmer did it with his planter,,he used some spray for weeds Ill find the name for you when I see him.I did plant the zinnias, the spray didnt kill them

My brother gave me a big bag of zinnia seeds with the fetilizer and everything combined. He picks up old vegetables and bread for his animals at a large garden ,farmers market type place here in NJ.They were throwing all the bags in the trash late last fall. I still have three bags of diasy wild flower mix,,I missed time to plant them this spring, gonna try next spring,I think the seeds will still be good.

Ididnt plant them ,the farmer did it with his planter, last season he planted some and sold them bag by bag for bird feed,He said he did ok,so I asked him if he could plant our field with them.
He will combine them and sell the seeds,I am glad he did it, I think my daughter will like it.

Often thought I would like to do that, I like cutting grass,I did have a job from 14 to 17 years old as caretaker of a mans yard here in NJ .He taught me a lot.Earned enough to buy a new chevy pickup.A 1972 1/2 ton,,6 cyd, three on the tree,no frills,,,,2000 dollars brand new. Then I set off with the truck doing odd jobs and such. The truck happened to be blue with white wheels.Thats how my tools got to be color coded blue and white....lol

Man that is going to be a SEA of yellow. Pleas send us photos! You will also have every bird in the county in that field when the heads droop. Get someone to harvest the field cause you can sell the seed.
