I have a MF 2300. Used it one day ran fine. Went back to it week later wouldnt crank. Checked pickup pump it works, solenoid seemed to be working but no fuel going to injectors. Took power off solenoid tractor will fire. Do i have a bad relay or solenoid?

Welcome littlejoe!

If I'm understanding this correctly, with the power removed from the kill solenoid, the engine runs?

And when you reconnect the power, the engine dies?

That is backward of how it should work... Is this what is happening?

Yes. That is what its doing. Took about 15 hours for me to figure that out

There is a plate on the side of the pump that you can see the arm of the solenojid moving. There is a spring that pulls the arm to the left hen solenoid is off. In that position the tractor will run. Could a relay be stuck causing this to work in the opposite direction.

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but I have never seen a kill solenoid that needed power to stop the engine.

That just doesn't make sense that it could be designed that way... You couldn't have the solenoid activated with the tractor shut down, that would drain the battery. And there is the safety factor, better fail safe to have the power drop to shut down than to rely on power to kill it!

Hopefully one of the diesel experts will jump in and explain it better than I can. There is also a Massey Ferguson board below, advise more specific to the brand, might try posting there.

Thanks a lot. I feel like it will be something simple when i figure it out

Well i figured it out . It is really simple and i feel a little foolish. The seat safety switch has a broken wire on it.

Steve, when you turn the ignition switch off, a relay energizes the fuel shutoff solenoid. If you listen
closely for a few seconds, after the engines stops, you will hear a little click. That is the solenoid
opening. It is normally open, and only energized to stop the engine. We get a few calls a year from folks
telling us their tractor won't stop running. There is a button you push to stop it manually, until it can
be fixed. Usually the relay is the problem. Hope this helps explain how it works!

Pushing the fuel shutoff solenoid button works to shut it off.
Where is that relay located?
Thanks!
