Funny how things work out

I had the pump apart on the pressure washer two weeks ago and lost a piece of one of the brass plungers out of it. I looked all over for that thing and couldn't find it.
I had to roll the cutting torch out closer to the shop door this afternoon to get a longer reach with the hoses. I think when I put it away,I rolled it back just a little farther and there laid that piece of that plunger. It must have rolled back underneath it.

I usually find things like that right after I get home from buying a new one.

It's stuff like that used to drive me bonkers when I was doing repair work for a living. When I built my new work bench in the cellar I built 1 inch side around the bench so when I'm working on something with small parts they can't roll onto the floor.

more than once i have bought something as i couldn't find what i needed i would get home and think that looks like a good place i go to put it there and find i already have 2 more. it must have not been such a good place after all.

Usually the part will roll under a tire, or the work bench. The other day I stopped by the neighbor's shop where they were getting the combine ready for fall work. This is a 590 Lexion. The hired man had put oil in the rotor gearboxes which are in the back of the combine way up high. IN the process he dropped the fill plug, it hit the slanted steel and took off out the back of the combine. When I got there he had moved everything away behind the combine and couldn't find it. I got on my hands and knees and looked under everything behind the combine but I couldn't find it. Another guy looked around on the floor and didn't see it. We gave up on it and started walking away when the other guy looked straight down behind the combine and there it was in plain sight on the cement floor. All I can figure is it hit something behind the combine and bounced back.

That was the heck of it with this one. It's a two piece outfit. I heard something hit the frame of the pressure washer and one piece fell straight down and slid off the back. The front half if it must have fell over the front of it and rolled a good five feet or more to end up where it did.

I ran out of gas with my small propane hand torch. I need to buy a new one so I can find the spare full container I already have stashed somewhere. Stan

I often threaten to buy a kiddy swimming pool. Those that are just a big plastic tub. Then work in the middle of it so the dropped parts can't get too far away.

The kiddy pool won't work. The dropped piece will bounce off your pliers pouch, then off the top edge of the pool on it's way to freedom underneath the work bench. LOL Actually, the kiddy pool does sound like a good idea if you are outside working in the gravel yard or in the corn stalks.

I had an 18mm short impact socket go flying off the end of the gun about 3 years ago in my shop, still have never found it ....

I dropped my 1/2 breaker bar and lost an 1 1/8 chrome socket in a 20x40 shop, found it 5 years later in the opposite corner of the shop I was working, and just seen a shiny object and came back with my socket. I thought is was gone, was working on a 3010 and thought it was caught on there somehow.

I have an old center desk drawer. I put it on the bench and rebuild carbs in it and other things with small parts. Then I have to leave it I can just throw a large rag (i.e. old t shirt) over the top. Never lost a little piece yet.

Especially any little bits of chicken wire you may have laid under the bushes to keep the dog from digging. I'm not sure why we needed to mow under the bushes.
