Plastidip or paint on aluminum rims?

Aluminum rims with some bad clearcoat----I have wire brushed all the loose stuff. Not looking for show quality just to look ok on a beatermobile.

Anyone ever plastidip rims? Pros/cons?

What is the paint that is not gloss but not flat that you see on rat rods? Would that be easier or better?

My nephew put plastidip on his aluminum rims on his Ford focus. They look good and lasted a number of years.

Are you saying the paint is coming off to the metal in spots? If it is, I would remove all the paint and start over. Once paint starts pealing off it will continue to do so. You can do a baked on enamel on aluminum however it's not a DIY project. If you are going to use paint I would start with Variprime primer. You can get most topcoats in a flat finish. If you are unable to find one a paint company can add a flattening agent to the paint to make it what ever sheen you like.

Since as you stated: "Plan to do in black." Why not use a "Bed Liner" such as Rhino Coat or Herculiner. If they're tough enough for pickup
beds, it would seem to be ideal for wheel rims.

There are three ways they flatten the paint . One is an additive to the clear coat. Another sprays flat [ Hot Rod Flatz].
