Hope it isn't a sign of things to come.....

Drove the 60 miles today to pick up the new Duramax. We get there and the salesman says it is in the service center...when he went to fuel it up it threw a code. We walked over there, tech pulls in from a test drive and says a sensor in the exhaust appears to be bad. They aren't available yet from GM (2016 truck)...but they will rob one off another truck. I asked if I could just take the other truck as it was identical. We agreed to go that route, but of course they had tinted the windows and added nerf bars to this one. No problem, they can have the new truck done in 1 1/2 hours. So I wait....2 hours roll by and no truck yet. Accessories guy finally tracks it down and finds out they are having problems with a stripped out bolt on the DEF tank (GM has them right in the wrong place, under the passenger side, so they use special mounts for the steps on a diesel). I finally get the truck and head home after 7 1/2 hours.
Hopefully not a sign of things to come....

I thought about going gas, but they said towing 12-15k like I normally do 90% of the time I could expect 8mpg.....I didn't like that figure....

it dont matter.. gas or deisel the more u load them the more fuel they will take. i bought my duramax new in 2006 and have over 330,000 k on it with absolutely no engine trouble at all. but you load it down with a goose neck and my mileage drops by about 35-40 percent. just the way it goes.

That is about what I have been seeing so far. But only have about 900 miles on it to date and only tow about 1000 miles/yr and only put about 5000 total a year decided after 12 yrs of running diesel it wasn't worth it this time.

My 04 Cummins would do 20 empty and 11-12 loaded highway and 14 slower runs doing tractor work. I hope to see 11-12 loaded and 17 empty with this one, but empty doesn't mean much to me.

Welcome to the world of unreliable modern diesels. Word of warning, let the truck tell you it needs DEF, don't just keep it topped off. If
the DEF tank is kept full, the computer assumes it is not using any and speed limits the truck. Also, don't stock up on DEF, no matter how
good the price. DEF has a finite shelf life, buy it as needed from a high volume seller, and don't expose it to sunlight or high temps.

I hope not??? I have a 2000 f 250 7.3 diesel, I get
13-14 mpg with it never checked it with out trailer,
no compliants from me with this truck, 210,000
trouble free miles, good luck with yours.

(quoted from post at 20:06:46 11/05/16) Just another reason I refuse to buy a vehicle made in the 21st century. Too much electronics.

Once this one is out of warranty I will gut the dpf, bypass the egr and put a tuner in...should be a real truck then. The closer tried to sell me a $4200 8 yr extended warranty...I wasn't buying it (even though he said everyone is buying them)...guess I was his first LOL!

I agree, still driving my 93 W350 Dodge Cummins I bought new.No reason to ever get rid of it.

Would you hook up a trailer and head out on a 3000 mile trip with it??

I am with you Trkr my 93 W350 close to 300,00 going strong never add oil between changes, and
I can do all my own service work.

Sounds like a bad dealer. I don't buy their "not
available" excuse for not having the sensor in stock. As
for the botched nerf bar installation, yes the DEF tank is
in the way, but how many nerf bars have they installed on
2016 Duramax trucks?

don't expect that kind of mileage from your new duramax.

My vehicles range from a 1975 jeep cj-5 to a 87 Olds delta 88 to a 93 G20 Chev van to a 99 Ford Contour. I will keep repairing them as long as I can get parts or some cell phone driver totals one of them. So far the bad drivers have caused minor damage to all of them.

hope you have better luck then we did dam thing was in shop more then on the road and when it was on the road it was all over the road. now a happy Dodge owner. my fault first and last GM

I don't think they are a bad dealer...they are the largest GM dealer in the northwest, and largest Dodge dealer in the world. The sell over 1300 vehicles every month!

I like my 2011 Ram Mega Cab dually. It was one of the last ones before they came out with
the DEF models. The only problems that I have had with it has been the recalls. Just got
done traveling 5,150 miles with it, visiting my kids who are scattered throughout the
United States.
