Clutch release kit.

Does anyone have an idea where a guy could find a clutch release kit for a John Deere model A tractor to use when pulling a JD pull type
plow? This is used to stop the tractor when the plow hits a rock and it prevents the hydraulic hoses from breaking and loosing oil. This of.
Course is for a hydraulic lift plow. This was used in the late 1940's.

We added a conversion to the G that was available to change the hydraulics to break away couplers that wouldn't break the hydraulics lines and lose oil. I believe the break away couplers were made by Pioneer. Worked better than a clutch release kit.

Our JD B came with one of those apparatus. Was removed about the second time it activated. Plow broke anyway, and operator knee would never be the same! Was just too slow to save any parts from breaking.

Our neighbor had one of those. After the clutch hit him in the knee several times while plowing in rocky ground he limped to the Oliver dealer and traded for a Plowmaster.

For all but the longest legged guys you could adjust the clutch lever linkage to put the operating range far enough forward to lessen the danger of it hitting your knee. I used one on my G several years while pulling a 3 bottom 55 3-14 plow without ever getting hit. I always set a little sideways in the seat toward the right to see the plow better and this kept my knee back too.

That is the way for a clutch lift plow but not for a hydrolic cylinder lift plow, that knee knocker was developed before the breakaway hydrolic couplers that did not loose oil were developed. About as soon as the breakaway couplers were developed most of the pull out the clutch lever to stop id you hooked onto something with the plow were junked. And if done properly a spring release hitch was installed. Same as with the clutch lift plow.

The only reason to ever want one would be for show where the plow was never to see any turning of the ground. When I got my 55 plow it had the hitch part but not the clutch release part and I did not understand how things were supposed to be, this was back in 69, and that hitch imideatly after getting jerked when plow hit something I got the realise like the clutch plow had. And most tractors had too much slop in clutch lever to be able to get one to work. And this was when the tractor and plows were still fairly new.
