Need truck tires. I have 90k on 70k
Michelin, p245/70R/17.

Only two places in town that offers lifetime
rotation, balancing, road hazard and hand
torquing. Wal Mart is $200 less than Tire
Barn.

Would you risk it to save $200?

I hate changing tires on the road. And Im rapidly coming to an age where I won't be able to change tires any longer. So IMHO Id spend the money.

The "P" designation refers to a Passenger tire (for cars), does it not?
I am in the process of getting the same size tires for my GMC Sierra.

I am looking at the LTX 245/70R17 for my truck.
They are the "LT" designation tires (Light truck) from Costco.

Make sure you are comparing the exact same tires from each place.
Light Truck Tires

If they both offer the same go for Walmart.$200 is 200 bucks...
Or is there another besides Tire Barn offering a the free services and Walmart does not? Confused.

Where I work we are only allowed to run p tires on our 1/2 ton pickups now, also we are not to load over the GVW of the truck. Before we could run LT tires if you check into the prices the LT tires are around $100 more but they last 2 times longer in my opinion they are worth the extra money if you are hauling anything or pulling a trailer it is a no brainer to go with LT tires.
With P tires we would have many flat tires and the tires were well wore out before the tread
With LT tires very few flats and the tires have no tread when there are worn out
This is just my opinion it is your money

I would go to an actual tire shop. My daughter tried walmart tires years ago. Called me up one Sunday and asked me to take a flat in to get it fixed for her. Arrived at three and they informed me they woulden't have time to fix it today. I could leave it and come back tomorrow evening to pick it up. They close at six here. Coulden't fix a flat for free in three hours but they offered to sell me a plug kit so I could repair it myself. My first and last experience with them. I woulden't buy tires there if they sold them for $20 each.

Check Costco and Sam's Club. Costco inflates with nitrogen; Sam's Club inflates with air. Here in the hot desert, the tires inflated with nitrogen will hold pressure longer.

Make sure you are getting the same tire. There are Michelins and Walmart spec.d Michelins, still Michelins but spec.d to sell cheaper

I have had good luck with Wal Mart tires in the past but have not purchased them in several years. Local stores got so nit picky about existing scratches on rims and such they would refuse service. If a claim was filed it affected their bonuses an employee told me. Long waits were also common. If a lug nut could not be removed the employees could not move the car out of line. Had to wait for a manager to make that decision, sometimes after several department meetings.

I tried that once. Had Michelins on my 350 Ford van. Guaranteed 60000 miles.. Wore oput in 30000. Stopped to get them repaired at a walmart and was refused service. Tire manager said I had overloaded the tires so warranty no good. I asked how he knew about my loading and he said "I just know" Store manager fired him on the spot later when he was arguing with me. Got new tire but too much hassle.

Called all tire shops. Only two places with
all the things I want, lifetime rotation,
balancing and roadhazzad.

If you got 90,000 miles on the P tires with few problems, I would stay with the P tires. You probably are not overloading the tires very often if you got 90K miles from them. Switching to LT tires will probably cost extra and will likely make the truck ride harsher. I would try to weigh that against any potential extra miles from LT tires.

The mark-up on premium tires can be substantial. I'm not a Walmart fan, but there are some things they do very well. As a nationwide chain they have thousands of stores in just about every town over 5,000 population. Walmart buys tires in very very large volumes. Walmart has a lot of negotiating power, closer to the power of a vehicle manufacturer than the power of a smaller chain with a dozens of stores in several states. It's believable that Walmart can buy tires for less cost and sell them with less mark-up than a smaller tire chain can do. Another consideration is if those tires are normally stocked at your local Walmart, it's likely they are also commonly stocked in almost all the other Walmart stores too. It does not hurt that you could get a tire replaced under warranty in any small town with a Walmart.

Again, I'm not a Walmart fan, but at 15 to 20 percent less cost and thousands of tire centers nationwide, I'd be really hard pressed not to buy the tires from Walmart unless the other store was run by friends or family.

EXACTLY! We bougfht Walmart MIchelins with the road hazard guarantee, and in the middle of Kentuck or Tennessee or someplace 1000 miles later, got a severe side slash, and hobbled into the closest Walmart, and got back on the road in 2 hours, new tire, good to go. Your warranty is good anyplace, and there's a Walmart everyplace.

My old tires are LTX. No way would I use P tires on a truck especially when I pull a dump trailer, total weight 8k.

"Need truck tires. I have 90k on 70k Michelin, p245/70R/17."

Sorry, the confusion comes from your first sentence where you listed P, But I would stay with the tires that gave 90,000 miles.

Only time I would go to WalMart anymore for tire work is a carry in on a time when other places are closed. I used to get oil changed but quit when they had to start by measuring tread on tires before they would change the oil. On tires I had gotten a very good used set for to put on my van and because they were like a 70 series instead of a 75 series that was listed on the door post would not mount them, now if I had carried them in one at a time and said they were for a trailer they would have mounted them.

If the walmart tire says Wal-Mart on the sidewall anywhere, RUN!

A friend who runs the co-op's tire shop airs it up and sends them to Wal-Mart if it'll make it. The liners are real thin.

A Good Year dealer told me that the tire I asked about was a WW tire and he didn't carry that product... So, one MIGHT assume that the WW tire was lacking something to get the better discount to go with volume buying. I have their www purchased Hi-Run 6 ply bias on 2 trailers and don't have a lot of miles on them so I can't comment on reliability. $40 per, free shipping to store.
