If it is real clean then anything under the upper teens ( $15-19K) would be a good buy. It kind of depends on the hoe attachment. The factory JD hoe worked well but was slower than the after market ones that used a PTO drive hydraulic pump. The JD unit is much easier to remove and reattach so it all is a trade off.

I would like to know what your going to use it for??? IF it is for just occasional back hoe work and more tractor work then this is good choice. IF your going to be doing serious backhoe and loader work then look at a true construction hoe.

Another thing to know about is the JD 5400 without a power reverser has a dry clutch. This can be an issue doing a lot of loader work. The power reverser is a much better choice if your doing lots of loader work.

Has a JD 540 QT loader and a JD 10A frame mount hoe. I will mostly be using it lighter duty, but will also use it for snow plow contracts. I want to buy heavy duty enough I'm not overworking the machine, but also need PTO With remotes for my feed grinder. I think this machine fits my needs, I just don't want to pay too much.
 
A 5410 with factory cab,heat,air,radio and a john deere loader with 2400 hours
brought 17000 in Ohio saturday.
