California Rust

Out here in the Borrego Desert stand these rusted sculptures. I know sweetfeet likes rust, hope the rest of you do. This guy received millions from his dads estate. He bought hundreds of acres in the Borrego Desert and had someone build these sculptures. There are around 120 of these things. Just standing alone. They are made of sheets of tin welded together. The desert is about a 3 hour drive from home. Stan

37chief,

Beyond fantastic! See, rust just looks great everywhere - as good against the backdrop of California desert as it does against a backdrop of Minnesota greenery.

Thanks for posting these photos of you and your wife's excursion. It looks like the two of you had a lot of fun. And thanks for braving the dinosaur for a photo-op. Good you had your dog there in case that critter got out of hand. :)

Our teen daughter just came downstairs... she thought they were cool too.
The favorite for both of us is the rusted serpent/dragon/snake. Not sure what to call it.
Next favorite is the guy panning for gold.

We did spend a few moments pondering why the man hired someone to create these:
Simply wealthy and eccentric???
A philanthropic venture to draw tourists to his community???
A thumb-off-the-nose to his father if they didn't get along well???

I like!

The dog looks worried though!

Nice that there are places stuff like that can exist without being vandalized or stolen. Would never work around here.

Thanks for the pictures!

Thanks for posting them. I would be glad to look at more if you are in the mood sometime. They are great!

Thanks Stan, those are fantastic. I haven't been down in that area since 1976, when I worked in the El Centro / Brawley areas as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic. In the early 1970's I used to be down there every year for a large Jeep Run in the Anza-Borrego Badlands sponsored by the Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club out of San Diego.

To me the serpent, dragon, snake looks to be a desert rendition of "Nessie" the legendary monster of Loch Ness lake from Scottish folklore. Not sure if that was the artist intention or not. All pretty cool, thanks to Cheif for the pics.
