Brush hog safety shield problem

I have a Brush Hog brand rotary cutter. Small 48 in unit model number SQ48R-3. It does not have a safety shield on the PTO shaft. The thing is there is no grove to put the plastic ring on that then the shield hub clips to. To try and make this simpler the shaft runs right t up to the coupler no space whatsoever. Any suggestions or who actually built these units where I could possibly get some help.

Thanks

Sounds like the PTO shaft or parts of it have been replaced with generic yokes that don't have a provision for shielding.

You'll have to replace one or both haves of the main part, plus buy a shield.

For relatively light-duty stuff like you may be able to find a complete shielded driveline at Surpluscenter.com, or even ebay reasonably compared to buying those parts.

Agri-supply has some good prices on drive shafts, I have no idea how good the quality is, I know shipping can be expensive. I bought a used Bush Hog 3-point auger last summer, and it does not have a shield on it, I might try to make something using plastic pipe.

Get a couple of pieces of plastic tubing, small one that will fit over the shafts and larger one that will fit over the small one. Drill a couple of holes at the U joint ends of the plastic and zip tie each piece to it's respective shaft half.
