Train buries unsuspecting airheads waiting on a train station platform with snow. Duh ... um there's snow on the tracks, what do we do now!!??

I saw that deal on the news. Holy cowfish ! ! I would have kinda looked at the tracks where I was standing, seen the snow and walked out of the freakin; station. SCARY dumb.

At the very least the pic should show them running away. But she continues texting completely unaware that there is even a train coming much less that it is kicking up snow.

Both City and country folk can be extremely stupid when it comes to trains. But in the this case, it seems like the engineer should have perhaps slowed a bit more before entering the station??? A few warning
toots of the whistle would have been a kind thing to do...

Hmm. Doesn't look like any big city train station I've ever seen. Let me check...Rhinecliff, NY. Population 425. 1.01 square miles.

So I guess you're a "citiot" if you live in any town bigger than Ballarat.

(quoted from post at 16:05:26 03/17/17) If the engineer had slowed he would probably have been stuck before he had the passenger cars into the station.
Loren

I watched about 3 or 4 of the vids following this one and saw a train that had THE largest snow plow I've ever seen in my life - huge extension wings on both sides. The train came to a near dead stop in order to get as close as possible to some sign poles. Had no problems picking up speed again.

Another was slowing down because some idiot was standing entirely too close to the tracks and the engineer was afraid of hurting the person with all that snow.

I doubt the snow at the station would have been much of a match for the train.

Not really. If you are to dumb to move don't complain about getting hurt.

That coming from someone who says people are "to dumb" LOL How ironic! If you're going to call other people dumb, how about learning to use the correct word first? People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!

I thought it was "people who live in glass houses shouldn't pick stones"? I grew up in a wood house and picked way too many stones. Of course the neighbor down the way grew up in a stone house and burnt wood. Go figure

When I first saw that video my first thought was "why didn't they at least turn their backs"?

I've done dumb things too so I have no grounds to criticize them. The other day I was sitting in the truck texting, like that lady waiting for the train, while the bin auger was running filling the truck. The bin auger was dumping into the truck auger and the truck auger dumped into the truck. Because I was texting I didn't notice the truck auger had stopped and by the time I noticed the belt smoke the bin auger belts were burned up and the hopper was completely covered with corn. I hoped a neighbor didn't drive by right then.

What about "People that live in grass houses , shouldn't stow thrones" (the joke was, there was a...screw this, you figure it out)

They aren't texting. They're making a video of the train coming in. Got more'n they bargained for. Glad to see none of you guys ever done something stupid....

In the last 75 years railroads have become very safety conscious, especially when it comes to passenger safety and comfort. The driver appears to be moving recklessly fast, endangering the waiting passengers. It probably won't end well for that driver.

Loren has the right idea. I have plowed snow with a locomotive. You have to keep moving. If you spin out or stall out you have to change directions as quickly as possible and get moving. The snow will stick to the sides and undercarriage of the plow and locomotive. The locomotive trucks have traction motors and gear boxes which are warm. The snow melts then quickly freezes and your stuck. Then you get to start digging. Not fun.

I watched and the track appears to be relatively clear on the approach to
the station. Why so much snow on the tracks at the station?

Not sure she was texting I think she as well as others were either taking pictures or videoing the train. One thing I will say is the platform was cleaned before hand and it would make sense that the tracks should have been done as well. At worst people if not warned in todays world would certainly have many lawsuits over this. The station master now has a huge amount of work clearing the platform as well as repairing damage to windows and structure. As fast as the train was traveling flying snow can do a great deal of damage.

'[b:130efe7a17]Picked[/b:130efe7a17] stones'? What does that mean, exactly? Maybe it's '[b:130efe7a17]pitched[/b:130efe7a17] stones'?
I always heard it was '[b:130efe7a17]throw[/b:130efe7a17] stones' . PICKED doesn't make much sense that way...........BUT, WHO CAN TELL?
