Identify diesel engine, 706 Farmall, German??

I have a Farmall 706 diesel. How do I identify if it a German 310 or not. It is tractor seriel number 1556 S-Y

D-310 had Bosch pintle style, stud mounted injectors, the D-282 has the big injectors like the 560.

The early 706 with the D282 will have the injection pump on the right side of the engine. The later model 706 with the German built D310 has the pump on
the left side.

Another clue is if it has glow plugs, the German 310 didn't use them..

With that S/N you have a D282 unless at some point in it's life someone got CREATIVE and then all bets are off . If you have to glow plug it to start then it is a D282 . The German diesels did not come out till way later in S/N like 360000or something like that .

they start a lot easier. heads don't tend to crack as much.
