Thank you for your help with my JD2840. I removed the rockshaft housing cover and there is a pin on the bracket that holds the plate that had broken off. The bracket is on order.
The next question I have is the tractor will not shift into 3rd or 7th gear. I would not worry about it but since I have the cover off I figured I would ask.
I noticed on the high gears that there is what seems to be a piece of metal that is over the rod as some sort of stop mechanism. I removed the set screw and I can get it in the 3rd and 7th gear and it seems to shift in as it should and will stay there. If you put the set screw back in the piece of metal will stop it from going into gear.
No problem with 4 and 8 gears.
Looking at diagrams I do not see this listed anywhere. Do you recall anything like this?
I thought about cutting it shorter but not sure.
