Do you have any Oliver boat motors ? I saw some at a show here in Wooster. Never knew they put their name on such a thing. Pretty sure JD and IH didn't think of it and they put their name on everything !

No.I don't have one. Oliver actually made those themselves, they weren't something that was contracted out. If I remember the story right,Perkins out of England bought that division from them.

That's even more interesting.

Have you ever been down here to Wooster Ohio to the Oliver (and other farm items) museum ? JR acres I think is the name. Very interesting.

No,never have. I'll have to put it on my list. Does Tim Smith have anything to do with it? He's a big Oliver guy that lives down that way.

There used to be a small engine shop here that had an Oliver outboard motor clamped to the wall. The guy wouldn't sell it and I think he finally died and one of his kids got it. The shop has now closed. I've got a couple of Oliver outboard motor ignition coils laying around here somewhere.

...That's the way I recall also. Somewhere Cris Craft was mingled in if memory serves me...

Ya,I think you're right. Didn't Oliver make a pair of outboards that turned opposite directions for Chris Craft?

I thought I had a picture of a 550 with an outboard motor on the back. Johnlobb probably has one of it. Or anybody who's taken a lot of pictures at Oakley.

I know where there is one located the guy always says 'maybe' when I ask him about selling it.Which knowing him translates into ask me when I need some money and I'll sell it.

I have seen a few on Craigslist. Guess I should've bought them. Also saw a pic of a tractor with two on back.

timely topic, as an oliver 15 motor, equipped for electric start, showed up at the local consignment auction, last friday. it is now residing in my shed. from what i could find with google, it is a 1955 or 56 model. been a long while since it ran, but who cares?

I was finally able to put my hands on one of these that is complete enough to make a runner. My great grandfather had one.

I need a bit of a history lesson here... So, Oliver, a company that used an outside vendor for many tractor engines (waukesha) made their own outboard motors???

I don't think so ? I have heard of Tim before he is farther east IIRC.
I'm brain dead as to the name of the main fellow involved in it. All I can remember is he is the son in law of the late Ken Miller of oil field supply business. There is also an oil field museum I think it is still called the Cow Palace, down close to Shreve Oh. Both these places only open for special occasions.

SO the title is "Still Farming with Olivers" but the content is about boat motors?

OK interesting, never knew Oliver made or marketed outboards.

Now as far as the "still farming with Olivers".......is you did it right you could a afford a JD or CIH!

Waukesha finished the tractor engines for Oliver. They were cast by Oliver, sent to Waukesha, finished, and returned as running engines. They would switch trailers half way,so the driver from Charles City with the castings would be back home at night and so would the driver from Waukesha.
