Riding lawn mower question

Have a John Deere La145. I had fifty feet left of the yard and the mower deck stopped very quickly. When I start up the tractor all's good, then turn the deck on via the pto switch (without the belt) nothing happens, the pulley won't spin. My guess is the pto clutch needs to be replaced?

Any other ideas if that isn't it?

Before going to a new clutch check wiring for bad wire and look at fuse (if it has a fuse), and PTO switch.

So what was it?

I had an electric clutch where the epoxy/sand potting around the coil disintegrated. Allowed the coil to rub on moving parts, destroyed coil. Was able to determine approximate number of turns and wound a new one with electrical motor wire. Went approximately 10% more turns and filled the bowl with epoxy. Repair still good after many years.

Those electric clutches are suppose to have certian clearence when in the off position. Also a low battery will do what your talking about. Check the charging system if the battery is low.
