Ford Fender Solenoid

among all the new parts that went into my 1969 Marquis convertible ,it got a new solenoid last year when i attempted to put it legal back on the road,, i think the durn thing went bad today , i started the car and backt out of the garage , got it all loaded to do my errands , dropt the top , turned the key ,,. NUTHIN !!!! wth??, , turned on key arced across solenoid with channel lox,,crank and crank ,? NO Fire ! ,ended up runnin a hot wire to battery side of coil and got the fine lady to fire rite up and put her away in the garage for thew nite ,,.. i guess the solenoide could kill the spark too ,, but i never had that happen before in all the 20 or so that failed and have kept me for a fool,. most times i could arc across and get them to crank and run ,,,seems like a couple faild to where nuthin would come thryu the channel lox , but aroll over the hill with a stik shift in gear and key on and we could get home o k,,. had one keep crakin the engine with the key off , had to disconnect batry,,.. also Pops 1975 ford truck started cranking one damp evening , no key in the ignition ,thank god it was a automatic that was in park, what if a strait shift malfunctioned , and you guys can probably tell me horror stories where that actually did happen , i have removed bad solenoids and repurposed them to working use in a cub cadet and a manifold heater switch for the 430 case diesels ,such applications only needed one one activater post ,..but i bet this one will become sledgehammer bait

I wouldn't blame the solenoid just yet.

Sounds like it lost power to the ignition switch if it won't crank OR run without a jumper wire.
