Finally a chance to bale some hay

Made 185 bales yesterday, and finished up wrapping today. Rain in the forecast, another 40 acres , of what would have been good Alfalfa waiting to cut. Hard to string 3 nice days together without a shower. Rained a little last night.

Glad you got some baled... especially since you were getting low on hay.

First pic is GRAND! Looks like a field of giant marshmallows. :)

So...you had both wrappers going too? Good that you got that many baled and wrapped. How many you think you need to make it thru a year? Bet my tractor and baler is a lot older than yours...

We need between 7-800 wrapped bales , and I make another 5-600 dry hay too, as well as 3-400 straw. And you are right , your baler is a wee bit older than mine . I haven't seen a chain baler used in a long time now. You can't go wrong with that tractor .

Pleeze send that rain south. Had 1/2 inch in the past 60 days. Glad my Alalafa and Clover seed are still in the bag.

Nice old 930 there. Now I wish I"d taken a shot of my 2090 on the 847 baler today. I actually couldn't make it work until evening when we got a little humidity. Prior to that in the 80 degree heat and dryness the hay would just pile up on the pickup and not feed in. By 10:30 it was getting so damp that the tires were getting wet so I shut down not wanting to put too much moisture into the bales. I shot some video so hope to get it on youtube soon. If I can get an early start tomorrow I should finish that field before it gets too dry.

No cattle or baling done here, but I had to go back and look at the first pic again. ...It really does look like giant marshmallows! Good one SweetFeet! *lol*

Yeah, that's a nice lookin' Case there. It'd be a difficult choice if I could choose between the two, but if I could choose between the two for free, I think I'd have to go with the Kubota, simply for the front assist and loader....and maybe the cab, and A/C, and.... If not for the skeeters and high water here, I think I'd go with the Case. Very nice workin' clothes.

.....What, me fickle??

(quoted from post at 06:39:06 07/08/17) Had trouble making a bale in the heat also. Waited till evening then idled down slow till the bale would start. Guess that's the nature of a chain baler.
Yes, the dampness of the evening made all the difference. I worked til 10:30, then started up again about 8:00 this morning. It was a bit wet but sure worked nice. I find if I can keep a good big swath pushing in it tends to feed better. Worst scenario is a skimpy little dry swath and having to drive slow on rough ground. Almost guaranteed to block up on the pickup in front of the chain. Thats why I like to use the rake to throw a few small swaths together into a big one that keeps the baler happy.

Bruce, seeing that you also make chopped haylage and corn silage, roughly what % of your TMR do the round bales make up? You must feed a very high % protein.

Cows get TMR before morning milking , once all morning chores are done we unroll a wet bale in front of the cows to snack on till evening
milking , then more TMR . Seems the longer hay in the wet bales helps to prevent twisted stomachs , and promote higher butter fat .
