Back from the weekend....looks like you guys have been busy ! I will put on an F-4 mag...a reconditioned one; Carb is rebuilt and working fine; just wanna know how you guys start your "crank tractors". Choke til it fires? Choke one time? Also, when I switch out my mag is it "unbolt and bolt back" or do I need to time it or anything else? Thanks.

I have 2 hand crank JDB's. I never let them fire on a closed choke. You will have to check & make sure the impulse snaps at TDC or a little after.

Cannot be 100% sure but most mag you can either have them on right or 180 out. As for starting each and every engine has it own wants and one has to learn that to start them. As for choke you do not want to over choke it or you will flood it and then be super hard to start.

that was "the other day "! Since then I can crank it several times now before it fires.....I also know the mag doesn't "click" all the time so I have to smack it lightly with my hand or something to get it to work. Im thinking maybe choke it one time then take it off choke....thanks for the timing advice - old- that sounds right... just need to figure out which is right and which is 180 off! Thanks!

Sometimes it depends on the individual motor. My AC B only needs full choke about 2 pulls and then half choke after that; anymore and it has gas running out the choke drain. My AC WC likes full choke until it starts running and then immediately no choke.

With that big motor on a W30 you will sure get some good exercise trying to fine tune your starting procedures.

no its not unbolt and rebolt... its getting the timing set. usually 2 clicks on the mag. then open choke and she starts. the W30 is a walk in the park to start. try cranking the WD40 .. you will find out fast if you got the oomph to pull that crank. mine starts on the 3 rd pull. which is a good thing otherwise you will be beat fast! its pretty much all you can pull on that crank. my W12 is like winding a clock. once started it starts with one mag click also. a magneto and crank on a tractor is a wonderful thing.
