More Drunk Driving Oddity

This case seems to go the opposite of some that were discussed here this week.

Man was arrested for DUI while sitting in his car in the driveway.

But listening to the video, sounds like there may be more to the story. For some reason the police contacted him twice before deciding to arrest him on the 3rd visit. Did someone complain, was he causing a disturbance? Doesn't say, but I suspect they had a reason to be there the first time.
Driveway DUI

Recently in a nearby town a guy pulled into a parking lot on his way home after a few pops because he didn't feel safe driving. He got arrested for OUI because he was sitting in the drivers seat with the engine running. It probably didn't help that the parking lot was for police cruisers only.

A man told me he got arrested for being drunk while riding a horse in town. I kid you not. Riding a horse while under the influence.

A guy I work with has a bucket o beer after work almost daily. One day in particular he has two buckets. Leaves his local establishment goes about 200 yards yo a McDonald's gets a bag of grub then falls asleep in his car. Keys on the floor engine off. This all happened about 6 at night. Fast forward about 5 hours and the taco Bell next door gets robbed. Cops beat on his window till he wakes up and arrest him for a DUI. He admits to me he was drunk and could not drive home so he ate and parked to sleep for awhile. I'm not sure how to handle this one he tried to do the right thing and got hung. It's a Tangled web we weave.

My ship was out of NS Mayport Florida. Me and a buddy got drunk one night. Woke up the next morning. Parked in the base commanders wife's flower beds.
HE was upset, she was livid. Cost us a few bucks to settle that one.

Wonder if it was like the story a guy told me:

He was helping on a traveling work crew. Gone 4 or so nights, home on the weekends.
One day they ate lunch at a restaurant. One of the younger guys goes over to another table and talks to a group of latinos. He comes back from their table with a 'dime bag' of some drug. After work, He and most of the rest of them stop at the ABC store and buy some beer to take back to their campsite.
That night at 2 AM they have a wide awake drunk on their hands. Keeping the whole crew awake, sitting in the work truck playing the radio full blast and blowing the horn. And they can't reason with him.

You don't have to handle it- leave that to his lawyer. Maybe the guy needs to drink a few less buckets of beer. Ya think?

When I worked in Whitefish the cops got a local who was on horseback. Quiet little unassuming fella the cops had it out for.

Had a guy here got a DUI in his drive. Disabled Vet with breathing issues associated with Agent Orange and missing an arm due to combat action in Viet Nam. He didn't have AC in his house so on a really hot day he was sitting in his car with the AC on. Neighbor that he didn't get along with called the cops. He did beat the charges defended by another Vet, Marine JAG officer retired who took the case for free.

Now knowing the guy I doubt he had any intention of driving but I'll bet he got mouthy with the cop. He did have an open barley pop in the car.

I'm not helping with his defense lol. I just meant I'm not sure how to make an opinion on the laws enforcement in this instance. And yes less buckets would have helped him.

"For some reason the police contacted him twice before deciding to arrest him on the 3rd visit."

Yup, definitely more to the story than the clickbait CNN interview is telling.

Police were called because of excessive noise, gave him the DUI when they saw him driving up and down the driveway.
Court ruling

Sorry, I have to disagree with that Michigan Supreme Court ruling. That's like saying you can't go out on your own land and have a big to-do with 4x4's and mud holes and LOTS of booze. It's not "my" kinda thing, but if his car never left the driveway, then seems to me there would be nothing they could do to him.

Ok, here's a good example of my line of thinking from last post:

On this thread (http://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1323653), sms shows us a photo of his(?) very beautiful truck, with a child sitting behind the wheel.

Now, let's say this child was moving the truck on their own property, and maybe even his Dad asked him to move it. Obviously the child has no license. Yet even if the child and truck remain entirely on private property, or even entirely within their own driveway, then in the Michigan Supreme Court's way of thinking, they could rightly give this boy a ticket for driving without a license!

IME, after 20 plus years of giving reports to news media sources, the news people ALWAYS add their own spin to whatever they report. I don't know if they just don't listen, if it's unintentional or what, but I've seen dozens of times you give the news a story and it comes out completely discombobulated in the paper. I take everything I read involving police arrests with a grain of salt.

My wife should work for a news media source. Whenever I ask her a question she completely changes the meaning in her head and answers an entirely different question, LOL.

Well, that's the fairer se x altogether. Piece of advice- If she ever asks you if you think her sister is prettier than her, don't bother answering. Just slash your wrists or take the clock radio for a sim in the pool 'cuz there is NO right answer!!!!!!
