I have an M Tractor with LP (Steering goes length wise thru tank: Albeit tank is shorter than some I have seen) & it has disc brakes. Only number on the ID Plate is BK 168377 X1; it had formaly belonged to a Mr. Key who owned the Key Equiptment co in Oklahoma; he passed away in Feb 17, relatives (Advertised it as a Super M, i didn't think they made super m till 52-54) auctioned it off June 2 2017. Does not look to be repainted. I crossed the numbers only 168377 to Farmall and should be 1948. What has me preplexed is the BK looks stock to Plate and inked on; then after the serial number is the space with XI obviously stamped into plate and stamp font dosen't look same as serial numbers. The fan does not have a shroud. Tractor had NO Pulley Belt drive. The Hood does have a very faded super m decal at the front by the radiator shell. Shell has two aprox one inch holes beneath the first wide bar. Any information on this Tractor will be helpful there is a weight bar on the front and an additional lever on the left side coming up from the brake and it is short with a black knob. CMV

AFIK,IH never made a 'factory' propane M. ths first 'factory' propane was super M.The Sn (I think) is a Louisville tractor/Sn.The disk brakes were Sm. M had band brakes from factory. However some Ms were fitted with aftermarket 'Lambert'disk brakes. Is the tank mounted lengthwise,or crosswise?Pretty sure a 'factory' SM had the tanl mounted crosswiseYou could have an M/SM that was converted from gas to propanr at some time..Sounds like a SM to me.The belt pulley thing is of no issue. That was an option that not all tractors had. The lever on the left side is an M/W live pto hand clutch.Pull back on it,the foreward motion will stop, pto will continue to run. snap it foreward and resume foreward motion. We need some picks to help you better.

X1 indicates a gas engine, as in gasoline. IH didn't have a propane until the Super M, and by your numbers you have an M, or a hybrid of several tractors. As DR indicated, Lambert disc brakes were available. How many bolts hold the housings to the tractor?

Before the stamped serial number itself: Plate reads FBK (What does FBK stand for) and yes the tank is mounted lengthwise (It is short and high, steering does go thru it). I can provide furthers/pics in a coupla weeks as the tractor is in Porter Oklahoma and I am in Springfield Mo. How do I add a picture to a post? cmv
