1965 Ford runs then dies 1 ton truck the fix

So went and tried to start it a couple times today and it would not start. Spark seemed to be weak. Son had been in town so had him pick up a new condenser. Was taking the old condenser out and took the wire off the points and looked at the condenser and where the wire went into it did not look right. Pull on the wire just a little bit and low and behold the wire pulled right out of the condenser so now I know what the problem was. Put new condenser in and it fired right up and ran fine and I shut it off and started it back up a few times and it ran just fine

Ya I love the simple fix but I sure do not like that sometimes it can be a real pain in the back sides to figure out.

I had a 1972 that would just quit running,I carried an extra set till I put in a pointless conversion kit.

So the old way of tuning up still applies. Replace points and condenser often. May want to have a spare distributor, rotor, and ballast too. Save a trip to town.

Points you can usually see if they are going bad, maybe even fix them for a while. Condensers! Those little devils can drive you nuts. I had an Onan on a skidsteer that ate condensers like Rosy O'Donnell eats M&M's. Thankfully the engine finally self destructed, but up till then I figured a condenser per hour of run time! Never did figure that one out.

I've had a 71 F350 for ten years and someone put electronic ignition on it before I bought it and I've never had the distributor cap off. I starts every time and it's got the newer ford elect ign with control box.

Electronic ignitions started being put in cars and trucks in the early 70s so that maybe a factory installed unit

No I'll still stick with doing points and even then I only do them when they get so bad I cannot clean them up. I have tractors that have points in them and there 10 plus years old and they keep going. I'll replace the condenser when I have another problem like this if I ever have another one that is. This was the fist time I have seen this happen

Well maybe not on a Ford but he 1971 Chev Vega that I had was electronic ignition
