Yup, today is V-J Day. World War II officially ended this day 72 years ago. Six months before today and six months after this day both happen to be Valentine's Day. ....Today is also our 19th Anniversary.

Thanks for the picture! She was a pretty good kisser and all the people around us kept yelling "GET A ROOM"---Tee

If i remember right. He didn't know her. Just saw other people hugging
and kissing and grabbed her.

After the Iwo Jima flag raising, that is probably the most commonly published WWII photograph.

It represented the feelings of the nation after nearly four years of war.

Seems like I saw a documentary on it. Looks like she is doing all she can to push him away. Wonder how it ended.

They were, indeed, strangers.

To this day, no one knows with certainty, who the nurse was but a woman in CA claimed it was her before she passed, several years ago. There were a few other claimants as well.

My town still has a V-J day parade. Its the longest running one with this being year 72 for it. Every year someone complains that its disrespectful to the Japanese people living here. I wont go on my rant because I may get flagged!

Classic photo. These two sure learnt the ways of the world in a very short time frame. Ha! Ha!
Lots of boys and girls became men and woman very quickly during that time.

Congrats on your 19th anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. KCM. Wishes for many more to celebrate together.

Best take that girl out eat or something. :)

Thank you Gina. Unfortunately, I did something to really aggravate my neck a couple of days ago so have spent the better part of two days in bed. Pain meds are acting more like sugar pills right now!! Besides, the nearest "real" restaurant (you know, with seats and everything! ) is over 100 miles away. I splurged and bought us some fillet mignon steaks to have today, as well as a new charcoal smoker/grill - but guess they'll have to wait for another day. Can't tell you how many make-over days we go through!

My grandfather spent some time in the Pacific. He was some sort of early radar operator. Born 1-1-1917 to a couple of Czech immigrants his mother a stay at home mother and Dad a coal Miner turned farmer.
