Farmall 560 Diesel Timing

Good evening. I have a Farmall 560 diesel I just replaced the injector pump on. Timing is to be set at 3degrees BTDC. There are no number on the fly wheel just timing marks. There is a large timing mark every 10 marks with short in between. My question is how many small or large timing marks is 3 degrees. Thank you.

My 282 has a rivet on the front pulley at the TDC mark, not sure if yours does. The long marks on mine are at 10, 20, 30, and 40 degrees BTDC. There is a mark for each one degree on mine, but they were hard to see until the pulley was really clean.

thank you for the insight. That was the guess I made but I believe I was off slightly. After setting the timing mark I adjusted the marks in the pump. Still could not get it to fire. Enough for one night. Will give it another shot tomorrow. Thank you again for replying. Have a great evening.

3 marks before tdc. every mark is one degree. and its marked every 10 degrees also. if the tractor is running i just use a wire brush to clean the front pulley, while running. then mark it with white marker to see it good. you will have 4 small marks then the 5th is longer.

Dboltin Of all the diesel engines out there that one is about as responsive to timing as any. Once you get it running using the marks then be ready to fine tune it. 2 degrees either way will affect the starting or running hot real quick. There is a fine line between starting good and running hot, may need to move it one degree at a time. Each engine seems to be a little different.

Was the pump timing set before it was removed? If not, there's a chance the pump is 180 degrees out of time. Can happen IF the shaft is in wrong, or shaft and pump dots not aligned, or pump weight retainer marked wrong, or installed off 1/2 turn. If the pump is in question remove the # one glow plug, and set the front pulley about 50 degrees BTDC. Have a helper then turn the pulley clockwise to TDC, while doing this there MUST be compression blowing out the # one glow plug hole, and pump timing mark visible in the window when at TDC. If you see the mark, but NO air blowing out it's on # six cylinder, 1/2 turn off. My e-mail is open on Classic view if you have any questions.
