Link Belt bearing

I bought a Link Belt bearing off EBAY for my mower, to keep a couple spares on hand, to keep from turning an easy repair into a full day emergency repair. The bearing is 1 3/4 ID self aligning insert that fits into a cast iron flange. The bearing has no small hole for the grease to enter the bearing. I have never seen a bearing with no grease hole. I am thinking this is a one time bearing, just run it until it fails, like the wheel bearings on older cars. Any thoughts? Stan

Might actually last a lot longer if it is sealed.

My old Ford flail mower the greasable back roller bearings never held up. Went to sealed ones and then sealed the mounting flanges too with caulking and I never had any more bad bearings.

I wonder if you could use one of those needle greasers. I have never tried one. I recently bought a couple, going to try it on some ball joints that have no grease fitting.

Hello 37Chief,

If the bearing has a seal it is lubricated for life. I would just instal it as is. There are three types of seals. The non metallic one can be easily popped off. Metal ones are either snap ring captured, or pressed in. If the bearing spins freely you need to take out the seal and lube it,

Guido.

Those things work great. I use them for hard to reach spots, but you have to be able to put pressure to the fitting or it will leak.
