Ford TW35 power steering pump

I just got this tractor and I used it about 8 hours and it used about a half quart of fluid. I cant see any obvious leaks so I assume it is going into the engine. Has anyone had experience fixing one. Also it only works with the engine above 1000 rpm.

More than likely worn out. You can replace the seal but sounds to me like the gears have already gotten into the housing as indicated by the low pressure.Internal parts other than seals and o rings are NLA. Sounds like a new pump is in order.

Thanks for the reply. I just called and a new pump is $999.90. Thank goodness it is not $1000! Maybe I can live with reving up the engine to steer.
I got to looking and I see pipes and hoses going to the back of the tractor. The leak could be back there. Does the power steering pump run the hydraulics? Going to work on it some more now.

Well I found the leak. It is not going into the engine like I first thought. It where it mounts. I still have to take it off.
The lines only go to the steering, not to the back. I see the hydraulic pump now.

The pump may very well be tired, but may I suggest overhauling the steering cylinder first? That way, for $50, you can eliminate 1 component as a source of trouble. You might even solve the problem. If its bypassing, that will cause pressure loss at low RPM.
