Value of tractor?

What would be the value of a 1949 John Deere B in nice condition? Could you give the range from low to high. Still don't know about how much work was done to it.

Too many variables here. Where you're located, if/how it runs, condition of sheetmetal/paint, and in what shape the tires are. The tires will probably determine the value the most. I'd say roughly $700 up to $1800 if it runs well, has good tires, and has nice sheet metal. Maybe...

Price varies by location of course, but in all locations, condition
of the tires is a big factor. Tires, tubes and rims are expensive.

My nephew just bought a 1952 B, running, for $500.
It doesn't look great. The tires are good but not matching rears.
We did have to rebuild the magneto and carb to get it in top
running order. Magneto cap alone is about $50.

Me personally, I would give double the money for a number series.
50/60 as opposed to an B/A. I passed on a 50 with factory 3PT
hitch a year ago. He was asking $1200 but couldn't get it to start.
In hindsight, I probably should have bought it for the 3PT hitch.
The independent PTO option on the 50 is a big bonus to me also.

Private sellers get a number in their head and they won't let go, at auction its not worth much, even restored, the market has just disappeared. It has to be what you are willing to pay to own it, you can't count on getting your money back on a resale.

A restored one would be hard pressed to bring $1500-2000 right now. An average running one would be in that $750-1200 range. The letter series is just not worth much now unless it has some rare feature.

The "H" and "G" still bring more money with the "A" next in value with the "B" being the lowest value tractor of that series.

just let one go this summer, late model B, decent with good tires, dual range, roll-o-matic, 3-point hitch..The guy I traded it to got $1500 for it.

I agree with another poster that live PTO and live hydraulics make a tractor more handy to use. For only a few hundred dollars more than a B, I would look for a Deere 50 or 60 that has live power. A 50 or 60 should be around $1,500 to $2,000.

I would say a lot depends on what you want to do with it. For a tractor drive tractor you do not need a live pto as you would like pulling a hay baler. So depends on what you want to do don't possibly over think what if on other models would be better. Just consider does it do what I want and without problems. Then condition if it is going to start doing that or are you going to have to spend a year of time and more money than you spent getting it in the first place to get it where it will do for you what you want. Then decide if it does what you want and then if you are comfortable using it. Then If you decide that it is what you want do not let others quoteing prices that may not be realistc influnce you too much. No body else knows that tractor or your needs. Then decide if it is what you want do you have the money for it. And afer that think it is what I want so if I pass this up what are my chances of finding a different one that meets my requirements and how long will I have to find it, one year or 5? Then What are the chances of it being priced at less that what you have passed up and the lost use you will have wating. If you are just wanting to go on that tractor drive and want it for that and you do not have anything else to use then if you pass it up you will be kicking yourself because you cannot go on that tractor drive. That is just an example if you are going to miss out on something while you are waiting.
