730 Case and Mower

A couple of weeks or so ago I put in a good afternoon of bulrush cutting with the 730 Case and six foot Farm King rotary mower. I put together a few video clips from the Gopro camera mounted on the steering column. It made the old 730 smoke a bit at times when I was in the six foot tall stuff.

How many acres are in that spot? Looks quite large. Will "reclaiming" it pay off? You sure do a nice job with videos! My Dad had a Case 830 in the same style (Standard) as your 730 and it was a joy to run. Wonder what the HP difference is from 830 to 730? I may look that up.

Although there was a big difference in cubic inches, the 830 was not a whole lot more in horsepower than the 730, which I think was 57 pto hp. Its a great old tractor but that worn out manual steering with the heavy blade hanging on the front axle sure helps keep me warm on a cold day. I'll be spoiled after driving the new 2140 with the easiest steering I have ever seen on any tractor yet. It almost steers itself.

Payoff is questionable as everything in farming is a gamble due to weather changes. I have planted crops in that creek bottom a few times over the years and they turned out well. Now just being able to drive through with the sprayer and other implements will be a benefit even if I can't seed it.
Should mention that this was my uncle Don's tractor on the land he used to farm. I first got to drive it working summerfallow in the summer of 71 so we have a history.

I like your videos . I watched a old video that you made in 2013 , changing the water pump on your 730. After hearing your comment on the "heavy steering " , I could see why . No power steering pump ! My 730 has a belt driven pump , and a slave cylinder , and it makes it a joy to steer. They sure are a great old tractor, and still usable for many jobs on the farm today , where you don't need a big tractor. Bruce

Yes, those were the days when power steering was optional and real men didn't need it. :) Sure is nice to have though.
