bush hog and manure spreader ??'s

Hello,
I have a IH 550 manure spreader and need to replace the wood. Wondering what wood is generally better to use?

Also, have a bush hog, not sure of make but has 2 blades on bottom attached to a bowl like in the center. Are those blades on bush hogs normally not tight. I noticed they wiggle a bit etc

Blades are not a tight fit on these, and that bowl shaped thing is the stump jumper / blade holder combined.

I think any good hardwood works. White oak is supposed to be a bit rot resistant but I haven't really seen that in outdoor stuff using it around here. I've put pressure treated in my old spreaders but I use
mine so I'm not concerned about appearance.

A little bit of wiggle on the blades is normal, but would still be a smart idea to check the bolts before next mowing season begins. The bolts stay tight, and the smooth part of the bolt (the pin) allows the blade to fly back out of the way if you hit a stump, which prevents damage to the driveline and the blade. Over time and with lots of use, those bolts can wear and need replacement.

The the spreader is one of the IHC models with plywood, then I'd use treated plywood to replace it. If it's boards, I'd either use treated 5/4 decking or that plastic board you can get from places like Farm-Tek.

(quoted from post at 15:33:33 10/27/17) Agree --- learn what brand of equipment you own!!

Old brush hogs can be hard to determine the maker. A lot of them use a common gearbox. It's true lots of folks don't know Bush Hog is a brand (but only if it is capitalized) but it really only matters to mower purists.
