Losing coolant from combine

Cant figure out what is going on ? .. dont see any leaks, 750 Mf , with 354 perkins , turbo, runs great , Starts great , Powerful , no miss ??.,.i fear a craked head or leaking head gasket,.if has been hot more than once,.the radiator was filthey from crud when it was probably new ,.. i8 washed it out with simple green and a garden hose ..

I don't think that Perkins has a bypass hose on the water pump, but I had a New Idea 701 Uni with a 292 Chevy that was loosing coolant one time. I couldn't see in around to the back side of it,but there was a bypass hose on that one that was leaking.

I had a ih 656 that would eat coolant. Never showed up in the pan. When I rebuilt it the head was cracked between the water jacket and the exhaust.

One time we had a pin hole leak in the upper water pipe on the JD 6620. We didn't see where it was leaking at first because the antifreeze would burn off and leave hardly any residue.

My old GMC straight truck needs water about once a year. I pulled the head to see what was going on. Small crack between water jacket and the #3 exhaust. It's been that way for many years. It's not hurting anything. She don't get but 500 miles a year on her. Some day when I'm bored I will pull that heavy sucker and have it fixed. I was many years younger the last time I did it and swore I wouldn't do it again.

the 354 in one of my 550s loses coolant. I think it is hose from the overflow tank to the radiator. I top off the radiator, and it ends up in the overflow after a few heat and cool cycles, like it won't draw it back in as it cools. Never gets more than a couple quarts low, never over heats. Doesn't bother me anymore.

Some times the radiator has a small leak and the antifreeze evaporates and leaves no trace but maybe a small greenish color on the fins.

My pick up used a little water. when I removed the rad cap i seen the gasket had many cracks and a new cap fixed it.

never saw one going in the radiator like the 800 case -omatic has ,,/being a hydrostat i would think it has a cooler ,., just a a/c coli in front of radiator , but there mite be a oil cooler incorporated there with the a/c coil ? .. i fear the durn thing got hot 2 too many times , and crakt the head ...

I just wonder if you might be loosing a little in to the oil through the cooler,if it has one. The 354 in the 1850 has a cooler on the front of the engine right behind the fan. Oil in one side and out the other, coolant in one side and out the other.

RG, that sounds like it has a bad gasket on the radiator cap or a crack or loose connection on the overflow hose. When the engine cools the radiator pulls a vacuum as the coolant takes less volume. It must be sucking air when cooling. You only loose a little bit of cooling capacity if the radiator is not completely full.

I punched a hole in the rad on my Ford Jube running into a dead limb. I couldn"t make solder stick so I used JB weld. Got it down to losing a gallon overnight. Coarse black pepper fixed it for all summer. Put antifreeze in expecting it to leak but it hasn.t yet in a month. Did put a little more pepper in.
