I am checking out the transmission to my Datsun roadster. It was working perfectly well, but I have it out while restoring the car. I have it open and I see no indication of wear anywhere, It shifts through all the gears properly and turns smoothly in all gears. The magnet has only a coating of tiny particles. The oil is perfectly clean and gold. What else should I be looking for?

Fill it with the correct gear oil? Not so easy to find at local auto-parts stores. I wound up ordering mine for my 1978
Toyota truck.

Yes, I have found out from the Datsun roadster forum that you have to get oil that is compatible with the type of synchros that are in it as they can be either of two.

Chips on the dogs of the gears. Very rounded dogs that may pop out of gear. Amount of engagement should be in service manual.

Here she is in the fourth application of primer. To keep it tractor related you can see the nose of my Ford 9000 in the back ground. my next step is to remove the doors and fenders then to apply the base coat and clear coat to the engine compartment, and trunk, and door jambs, then start reassembly. I have rebuilt many assemblies as I have removed them, so I hope to have it ready for exterior paint early in the spring.
