The milk can post below got me to thinking about some local history. Here where I live in western Pennsylvania there is a town named Heilwood about 4 miles away that was a coal company town at the turn-of-the-century. For those who don't know what a company town is, the coal company owns the entire town-- it owns the land, they build the houses for the employees to live in, they have a store in town where all the coal mining employees get their goods at the store in exchange for a debit on their paycheck. Heilwood was unique in that the coal company decided to build a dairy to supply the town with milk. The dairy is long gone, my grandfather used to tell me about it. About 25 years ago I came across a 1913 edition of coal age magazine on which the Heilwood company dairy was the cover story. More recently one of the former residents has developed a website telling the history of the town. Interesting reading for those that like history.
