Single action hydraulic cylinders?

Never used one before but, I have one here and was thinking on putting it into service. But, how does it work? ( okay, I know how it works but). Can you use a single action cylinder with a double action hydraulic remote on the tractor? If you work the flow one way and it lifts the implement then when you move the control the other way will it just remove the pressure to allow fluid to flow back the same line?

Thanks

ome remotes have a screw that you can turn to change it from dual to single. Need this to allow gravity load to retract cylinder.

I have a Cross Convert-A-Valve on my Stage II Super H, it has a converting plug you remove a plug on the
valve and install the new plug to go from 2-way to 1-way. You should also remove the hose on the rod end
of the cylinder and install a filter/breather so air can get in/out of that end of the cylinder. The
filter/breather only costs a couple Dollars. Should be by the cylinders & valves at your local farm &
fleet store.

If a Farmall or IH 3XX or newer, it has a switch selector on the back end of the Valvs that switch between the two. Jim

Will work on any two way valve (actually they are referred to as four way valves but we all call them two ways) but differently on different make valves. All make valves will allow return of oil back through the cylinder and hose. The difference is that if valve cannot be set for single action or have a float positon, the hydraulic system will go on relief valve pressure when lowering the cylinder. Almost all IH tractors valves either can be set to single action or have a float positon that should be used for lowering a single action cylinder.

Hi, I have a fairly new 3 pt cement mixer, it has a
dump cyl with only 1 hose to extend the piston. The
trouble I see is on the tractor there is 2 quick
couplers. How would you hook that up??. Ed Will

How does the drum on your cement mixer return to it's original position? By gravity?

As far as hooking it up, you can use either outlet. It just depends on which way you want to move the lever to activate the cylinder.

Real common. I've a Case/IH 1190 mower/conditioner. One way cylinders on ea axle, hooked together to
raise the header, gravity lowers it. The other cylinder is a 2 way that swings the tongue. I use this
behind my Case 830CK, but have used it with older tractors like my Case Racine 400 or the new 1070 on
occasion. Never a hyd issue, just plug and play so to speak
