Yep, I seem them too.

Not sure what causes it... but it seems to happen regularly with some posters. And those people's posts did not used to look that way.

that is a modern b/s attempt at language caused by yuppi kratz trying to mold the world into their fouledup fashion , If your new computers does this, IMHO i would RETURN IT .. you only further their cause when you attempt to communicate with them . i disregard them as if they are some foreign power insisting that we follow their siksharia law

It is mainly that Smart Phones and PC/laptops do not exactly work the same. You mainly see this in post done on Smart phones and viewed on PC/laptops.

All the times I have seen it, it is those same 3 characters in place of an apostrophe. I don't think sharia law has anything to do with it.

(quoted from post at 01:04:52 02/22/18) I?ve just started noticing it myself . Do my posts ever look like that

Actually your apostrophe in "I've" shows up on my computer as a "?". Are you posting from a tablet or smart phone?

It is so amusing that several posts show how rampant conspiracy theories get started through not understanding what is happening. I've read other places that the spurious characters are interpretation errors between software.

It's from a cell phone that isn't compatible with what ever equipment you are using. I have customers email me from their phones all the time and sometimes I can't make any sense of it on my computer.

Certain characters are call codes. example, an I between direction arrows sets the script to italics, an I and slash between arrows sets the script back to not italics, so when those characters are used in normal text, computer language dictates that they be transcribed another way. Given all the versions and updates, sometimes the language translators get muddled, and instead of getting the character, you get the code instead.
In a page address, there should be no spaces yet some pages now allow for spaces. those get translated into machine language as a percentage sign, so a percentage sign in normal script requires a different code to cause it to display. computer language breaks down to zeros and ones in groups of eight. Cobol reads them one way, fortran another and basic entirely different. Those were the common languages when I last took a programming class. Yes, that long ago. They have updated them and combined them because of the internet. Still glitches happen... Often.
If you type a reply with several paragraphs, hit preview, then switch back to edit, you may see some of those codes.

As others have suggested it's probably the Russians.
They're trying to hack the 'selection'.
Pretty soon you won't be able to get parts for most of the brands.
Only Zetors, Dutras, Kirovets and Belaruse.

SV, the only one of your posts that has something strange in is last one about Dukes of Hazard, Cannot make anything out of that. Every other is good on my desk top with firefox.

(quoted from post at 07:02:32 02/22/18) I thought this thread was going to be about some of the unsavory denizens of ytmag....

Me too! I see some goofy stuff show up when I post from my iPad or iPhone, usually when I try to use a emoji, like a smiley face or something. But yeah, I think we have a unusual crew here....

Did a google search and <a href="http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=dbtest&th=8943">found this information</a>.
