Glad I started working on hay equipment early

So far in the last month the NewHolland dealer ordered and sent the wrong corn head part I needed,I asked for part 51 on the diagram and received part 15,the wrong spreader beater tips the wrong chopper cylinder seal kit (they have the chopper serial number on file as we bought it from them last spring) and forgot to send a roll of 40 chain 😾. Would be in a pickle if I needed that stuff this week lol.

I've been behind a parts counter pretty much all the time since March 1984. Partially it IS finding help that hasn't played the do it yourself brain chemistry game, and sometimes the parts person is held in so low esteem that they don't get compensated well and find other work. Also many customers are not even sure what the have, not every Ford tractor from '53 up is a Jubilee, or ask for parts for a John Deere B where about the only thing the same between a '35 and a '51 is the green and yellow paint. Then there is the problem with people calling the same part different names (share-point, nut-burr, etc.). It was easier in the paper catalog days as you could write the customers serial number on the front of the book. That is why I have parts books for all my equipment and just take the person in a list. There was a poem about parts people from long ago, if I can find it I will post it.

I havent been to "local dealer" for parts in a while.. I ordered all of swather parts online this past fall.. waiting for warm day to get that done.. Some things you just have to go to dealer for.. but alot of "wear" parts can get online for alot less coin..Also Im working at day job during day so hard to drive 45 minutes and back before they close so online comes directly to my work place.. I also have all parts books for all equipment I have.. although you can go online and get most now days..

Took them 2 months to get the right auger for the neighbors New Holland round baler they sent the wrong one 3 times then the right one wasn't available. He had hay on the ground buy the time he finally got it baled the next crop was a foot tall coming up through the windrows

That's why I buy older equipment so I can have a back up or two and then buy parts machines to have my own parts supplier.I have 4 New Holland 851 balers that work and 4 more for parts have
have about $2500 in them all.No matter how much a baler costs how great it is,how fast it bales etc if it breaks down and thats the only baler you own you don't have a baler then.

I have put my books on the printer-scanner and printed off the page and taken to dealer even when dealer either never had parts book or no longer have them.
