Transplanting combine engine into Tractor

I sure someone on here has done this before. What Im wondering is if a Combine engine were to be put into a Tractor can the Combine flywheel be used to mount the original tractor clutch? I know Combies dont usually have a clutch but just a bare flywheel but Im thinking I could have it machined and drilled to take the tractor clutch. Any thoughts or advice welcome.

That would depend on which combine engine you are putting into what tractor, but in general the machining for a clutch and pressure plate is complicated. The casting for the combine engine flywheel may not even have the flats cast to accommodate machine work. Some engines require the crankshaft to be drilled for a pilot bearing. Someone who has done one recently could give you better details.

Maybe some details on what model combine, combine engine, and tractor would be a start for somebody to help you out.

Thanks for the info Bill. One of the guys in our tractor club here in Alberta, Canada has a few of those Majors, I think that's the model number. Some he has sold to people back in your area I think. Where abouts are you from in Scotland? My childhood friend from here's mother was from Dumfries, wherever that is. She was a war bride, married a Canadian in the air force during WWII and came here after the war.

Common in certain models. Gleaner combines donate their engines to allis chalmers tractors on occasion. IH combines to tractors etc.

I have transplanted John Deere, IH, and Massey engines from combines to tractors and have never been able to use the combine flywheel. In fact on a Massey usually you can hardly use anything except the block and head. On one Massey transplant, I couldn't use the flywheel, front pulley, manifolds, injection pump or oil pan.
