Getting Ready

I have the lawn mowers in the shop getting ready for Spring if it ever gets here. I will paint the underside of the deck with graphite paint. One can was $8 at one farm store the other was $13 at the other store ???? The sprayer tractor has been ready and the tractor I pull the roller with has muddy tires.

The graphite paint sounds like a good idea! I will put it on my list of things to do. I think that it is number 87. What are you doing to prep for it?

My newest baby is now ready. The deck lift cable slipped past the pulley in the frame. Is now fixed. Filled the tires also. Throw the tarp back over her. Also popped out that stupid california anti splash tube from the neck of the tank. You also cannot fill the tank more than maybe 90% full. Seven inch long bolt with a tug and another tug and out it came. Now the gas station hose will fill er up without clicking off every three seconds. Stupid idea.

What years the Wheel Horse? about a 64? I freshened up my 66 lawn ranger last summer, now I'm trying to figure out if I want to spend 55 dollars on decals.

Is there any chance of finding a mower deck for that little baby? See them at shows and have never seen a deck. Also that little toy trailer for them.

The Wheel Horse is a 704, 7hp-1964. It has some sentimental value as it was the first lawn tractor I owned. Bought used in 1969. Also made the year I graduated 1964. I refreshed it last summer. Found a good deck at a local tractor show. The original was rusted out bad. The motor has never been apart and it still has good compression and starts good.

Back in the late 1960s the Wheel Horse was the Cadillac of lawn mowers. It had a drive belt from the engine to the rear transmission which Wheel Horse owners and dealers claimed reduced vibrations. I repeated this arguement to a Cub Cadet dealer and he had all sorts of couterarguements. Oh Well, at the time i couldn't afford either one. Later just bought a Snapper, which I still have but don't use. Now have a ZTR.

I have power washed the deck. Need to wire brush it yet then apply the paint. I do this every year in the
fall. Didn't get it done last fall be cause of bad health.

I am thoroughly ready for the warmer weather to get here. Just got the PDF manuals for the Woods RM59 and RM306 today and will start getting them ready for the summer.

I have the deck and blade. Deck hasn't been used since about 1982 but the plow is pretty handy, kind of like a motorized scoop shovel.

I like them Horses, easy to work on and about impossible to tear up the trans axle.

Go ahead and order those decals GAB you deserve it! and whichever grand kid gets it when you die will be able to get an extra hundred out of the sale :)
