Only in America

"Only in Florida!"

In AZ we cook outdoors with Mesquite ANYTIME!

If you cook/burn food in your house with windows open, can these fools cite you too?

Happened several times in Austin. But contain the loud noise of "music", No way in the "Live music Capital of the Universe". Personally I've never been to any of the so called gormet BBQ places in Austin.

Back in the 70's-80's? Mrs Bairds Bread built a new bakery in Ft Worth.

The EPA made them install scrubbers in the oven vents to stop the smell.

Their next door neighbor is Miller Brewery. They are grandfathered, so their smell is not regulated.

I don't think the scrubbers are still working at the bread factory. Sometimes you can catch a pleasant whiff when going by. Depends on the wind and what the brewery is doing.

INFOWARS is a conspiracy theory site,
not to be confused with a website that
has factual information. It's run by
a guy with a sweaty forehead that
shouts a lot.

That may be true about INFOWARS.

But is it also true of 6 news....

Fox news.....

http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2015/07/27/florida-county-tells-resident-to-keep-barbecue-smoke-in-his-own-yard.html

The Chicago Tribune....

Shall I go on.

A few years ago something similar happened in DuPage County, IL. where one of the towns tried to or did regulate smoke from wood burners and fireplaces. I remember reading about it at the time but forgot about it until just now. Basically as I recall, your chimney could put out smoke from burning wood but it wasn't allowed to leave your property.

Don't get me going.

There's a process at work here. Multiple appearances is no assurance
of accuracy. INFOWARS is one of the routes used by fake news creators
to funnel information to more commercial outlets. You might find an
INFOWARS citation by Channel 6 and Fox News if you looked into it,
or they may have gotten it from the same source as INFOWARS. Note that
your Chicago Tribune citation is to a columnist's work, not a "news article".

If smoke from a fire is such a horrid problem, what are we gonna do about the annual California wild fires? *lol*

Have never heard of such insanity before. When down in Arkansas before Mom & Dad passed, they had a Tyson plant in town and a couple miles from their house. They and the neighbors had become accustomed to the smell, but we were always gagging every time the wind blew from that direction. Nope, not a thing we could have done about it either. Gee, go figure!

I didn't click on any of the links, but let me relate a personal story. Every body rants about their RIGHTS, but rarely if ever mentions RESPONSIBILITY. My wife has asthsma, and smoke has a severe effect on her, had this "discussion" with a person burning. At what point does his RIGHT to burn over run my wife's RIGHT to BREATH? With the right to create smoke comes the responsibility to do it in a way that does not HARM others. It they just don't like the smell of cooking meat that is one thing, but if it is causing them to go into respiratory arrest that is something else again.

The backyard bbq smoke violation visit was just a bluff.
There was no ordinance prohibiting the practice.
Unless you are grilling on a commercial level in a residential area.

Many Code Enforcement, Building Inspection and LE agents often
will tell you your doing it wrong or in violation of something.
But when asked to show you where it is illegal in the code or law, they can't.

Ian, I would expect that the correct course of action in that instance would be to go and talk to the neighbor and explain the situation. [i:5660f9ffbe]In a perfect world[/i:5660f9ffbe], they would try to prevent any smoke from heading that direction....and maybe even give you a heads up next time they had a BBQ in mind.

....Don't even see that kind of world on TV though.

Don't you find it awful ironic that the ones who keep screaming "FAKE NEWS" are actually the ones who are spreading the "Fake News"? No surprise there!
