Help Identify an Item

Not sure if this is tractor-related or not, but I know that a previous owner used to have some variety of MM tractor.

Found this item at the edge of the woods, on the way to where the old-and-nearly-gone outhouse still sits. The cracked center piece appears to be hard, solid rubber. Looks like a thin ring of chrome around that. The two tabs seem to suggest it was some sort of cap. Radiator? Fuel? Whatever it is, it's fairly heavy for its size. Weight of this piece is 7.9oz., 223.6g for you metric folks, and 3 7/8" OD not including the tabs. Also, it is NON-magnetic. Looking into the 4 small holes on underside, a spring is clearly visible inside - which to me suggests a radiator cap.

Found in the same scoop of dirt was an old, broken bolt about 6" to 7" long, just a few threads remaining, and about 1.25" diameter with a VERY thick hex head. There's lots of old trash around this place, as it is so far out that there was no place to haul trash/junk to other than dumping in the woods.

Just taking a guess, I'd say it's from a radiator. ...But what kind??

No idea as to its function; other than what you suggested.
But the non-magnetic has me wondering; looks like rusty cast iron.

Yes, it certainly does look like iron or steel, but it's not. Took my trusty Case magnet/light over it again and the ONLY place where the magnet is attracted is where circled. ...Baffling!

Looks like a headlight switch from an early Ford car. The switch was in the center of the steering wheel around the1 horn button

Jolly jumpin' sassafras, you guys are AMAZING!! I kinda figured on getting some ideas back but that narrows it down pretty darn good. Heck, is probably some of you out there who could even tell the license plate number just from this! *lol*

Yes, I can see where the 'rubber' would be bakelite. When I shut down last night, remember writing that it was "solid rubber", but then had written that there was a spring on the inside, which makes sense about that being the horn button. But I [i:7d90c6d096]never [/i:7d90c6d096]would've guessed the rest was the light switch! WOW!!

....If I keep digging, wonder if I'll find the rest of the car?!? *lol*

You might find the license plate for the car if you keep digging.

The part you have circled was the end of the tube that went down through the steering shaft, the switch itself was actually at the bottom. It was either pressed or molded into the pot metal part you have pictured.
